The Net is packed with good information for all levels but it tends to be all over the places and somehow can be time consuming. There are excellent references sites though, like the one recommended by Beth on this Blog.
If I ever buy another “hard copy” electronics book in the future it will be the next edition (whenever it happens) of “The Art of Electronics by Paul Horowitz and Winfield Hill”.
It is not a tutorial but rather a reference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_Electronics). Highly recommended, it covers basics as well as more advanced topics.

I prefer "Practical Electronics for Inventors" as my bible XD.
But I think it might not be suitable for beginners. but this book is good for those who have education level up to diploma or degree in any technical field.
