Hi Frank,
Of course, Yogesh is correct. But I advise everybody to get a Hakko 808 or a cheaper model to use for de-soldering if at all possible. They save you so much time and trouble and help keep you from damaging components and PCB's. I can't imagine not having one! They are not very expensive and you will be so happy that you bought one! If you don't trust anything else that I have ever said, trust me on this.

I think 25W soldering iron enough.
Do apply FLUX (Soldering/De-soldering Paste)on solder for component you are trying to remove and apply fresh solder first on the same then try.
take care not to apply constant heat on motherboard or it will damage trace.

Do use a separate ground. I know many countries do this. Here we split the 230 into 2 110 wite independent grounds. Do use 230 and ground.
