No Power In Rikon DVD Player Repaired
The complaint from the customer was while watching a movie, suddenly he heard a loud bang from the player and after that the DVD player was totally dead.
I have tested the player and indeed it was no power. I opened the cover and saw that he fuse and the main filter electrolytic capacitor were bad. The e-cap was exploded as you can see from the photo below:
I continued to check on all the components in the power supply and all seems to be working fine except the power IC. The power IC legs were shorted to hot ground.
I then replaced the two faulty components except the main fuse. I did not connect the fuse as I need to do another test.
I connected a 40 watt bulb to the back of the main fuse soldering points and then powered On the player. The DVD player came back to life ( no more short circuit) and this means I can put the fuse back and fully turn the set On again.
Troubleshooting and repairing equipment with no power symptom is not that tough. What you need is more practice and practice will turn you into a better repairer.
