Finding a Bad Capacitor somehow always seems to take more time than checking a Semiconductor does. It can be bad in more ways. Capacity and ESR value are both important. And a Capacitor often needs to be extracted out of the Board. While a Semiconductor has 2 wires that can be measured on in-circuit that is easier also.
And maybe that is why most Repair Engineer's, if they are also a bit lazy, are not able to find the Culpritt in most defect SMPS Units.
