konka led tv repair

A customer brought in a 24″ LED TV for repair with the complaint of not able to detect TV channel (No Tuning). I have connected the RF cable to see if the auto tuning work or not and turned out to be the same problem which was the TV channel does not appear. (No signal)- see the photos below:

Since this is a Tuner related fault, so I checked on all the voltages around the tuner circuit (photo below) but the voltages seems to be good.

And from visual inspection there was no burnt components around this circuit.

Next, I downloaded the TDA18273 IC (TV Tuner reception IC for both analog and digital signals), and checked on all the SMD components around this IC and did not find any bad components.

Note: You can click on the photo below to view the IC pdf file.

The only choice I left now is to replace the TDA18273 IC- see the two photos below:

I was very happy to see the TV was working fine after the replacement of the IC.

Conclusion- Actually I can direct replace the IC first and retest but somehow in this repair work, I have chosen to check on the SMD components first. Perhaps in the future, if I ever see this kind of symptom again, I would definitively replace the IC first. If you want to venture into LCD/LED TV repair, you can check out on Kent’s and Damon’s ebooks.

    Hi Suranga
Thanks for sharing specifically because i seem to have intermittent signal problems which i have traced to the coax connector, because i found by manipulating the cable at the connector i could resolve the problem.

But after reading your article i wonder if its perhaps the IC itself and my manipulating the cable merely resolved a symptom but has not actually resolved the problem.

Did Damon's or Kent's book address this issue?

    cheers
