Hi John,

Sorry for the late approval of your post as I have missed out your post! In your case, the first thing to check is all the capacitors value including the black cap using a digital capacitance meter. If all tested good then check the SCR. You can google for "how to test SCR"

Hi Jestine,
Good morning.

im so happy that i found this web and the circuitry is exactly same as mine.

Problems encounter:

1. when switch ON the fan from the main switch, it turn to speed 3.

When use remote control to select speed 1 or 2 or OFF, the fan's motor will have a sound "Kik - kok" and the fan's speed remain as speed 3. Seems like unable to change the fan's speed or totally cannot accept the signal from remote control. Not even OFF it via remote control.

2. i continue use the fan with speed 3 for few weeks by switch ON & OFF via the main switch since the remote control cannot control the fan.

now the fan will continue having the sound of "kik - kok" for non stop when i switch ON from the main switch even though im not using the remote control.

too bad, i don't have any basic equipment to check the cap and scr.
Base on your knowledge and experience, what are the component i need to replace?
then i'll buy and solder it.

1. the big cap? brown color.
2. the black cap? which you've as per above picture.
3. SCR?

A very big big thanks to you & have a nice weekend :)

from,

Hi Cairol,

It is not recommended to check the capacitor in circuit because of parallel circuit. Sometimes the result may not be accurate. The best is to remove one lead and test it off board.

Hi Ivan,
When the fan is rotating and you hear a noise usually due to the motor.

Hi Yussof,

Sorry we no longer provide fan repair service. Perhaps you need to open it up and check for any bad caps by referring to the fan repair article.
