(If I'm not too late) I'm an absolute beginner, self-taught & I have a different Philips shaver, a lady shaver/trimmer Series 6000 BRL/146/00 but maybe with the same problem, as it just stopped working ~1yr after purchase. I've opened it up-batteries, switch & motor all good. I didn't know what to do next, having trouble finding a good video on YT, this helps, but could you please put links to your ref. videos (or titles/search terms used) & explain (for my beginner self) how you chose which capacitors, why you shorted them, why it fixed the issue, and why do you think it happened in the first place? I have barely used my shaver, but it co$t$ premium buck$! I paid to NOT have issues!

But I’m still curious as to why it turns on when shorting? Mine starts just fine if I short it; and there’s several points that actually do it. But, it lights the orange led. The on/off switch works to stop the device when it starts by shorting, but, it won’t work to turn it on. It just “tries” to. When I click, the motor try to start for a second, but, that’s all.
It suck to throw a device that it’s good, just for some minor thing.

No,May be design fault because capacitors not discharging properly & making Memory effect.

I would have thought all capacitors would discharge if the supply was removed long enough and the capacitors that you manually discharged would be at the same state. I would have liked yo remove the battery pack overnight and reconnect and see if that would have restored the correct functionality. Never-the-less well done in effecting a repair.
