Comments on: Philips CD Sound Machine Repaired

I have just found this thread trying to fix a dead Philips CD Soundmachine AZ1055 for a friend. (The unit worked fine on batteries.) To cut a long detective story short, I replaced SMDs R902 & R902A which are wired in parallel - both of which were measuring several 100kΩ but are supposed to be 4.7Ω - with a single 2.2Ω 1/4W discrete resistor. The no-load DC output was restored to 10.5V and all is back working.
While apart, I sprayed contact cleaner on the volume potentiometer and changeover sliding switch.

Thanks for your input....Uploaded Photo is not clear. i checked both the resistors marked with 4R7 i.e 4.7ohm are OK & within the range & checked continuity of all the suspected traces found OK.actually i should have checked those resistors out of the circuit.as customer is in hurry because he wants to take this unit with him to his native on the same day if the unit get repaired, that's why i didn't waste time on further diagnosis & provided him instant result.

Good job and wonderful descision on interchanging the SMPS entirely.
I would love to know the culprit on the original SMPS since i did some fixes myself and learned valuable lessons.
From looking at the pictures, the PCB tracks on the live part right after the bridge rectifier look horrible. It almost looks like they are corroded to the point they start to vanish. Especially the negative line.
Could be those two resistors in series that burnt (R902 & R902A). Maybe the big capacitors have drained and fail.
It is very suspicious that the parts for the current sensing (CS pin 4 on IC) or even the track are faulty.

the knowledge of the fault eliminator is the best way to go here. is it the power supply or there is a short on board? that is the most important question of all. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day.
