PS5 Controller With Some Buttons On It Not Working Repaired
A friend of mine brought this PS5 controller and explained that it is working fine but some buttons on the left side were not functioning at all.
That is my first time opening such a device but I am sure I can handle it since it is the same as the PS 4 controller or at least close to it.
Actually, taking it apart is different that the PS 4 controller. Take a look
First thing to do is pry open this plastic piece and that will reveal all the screws that needed to come out.
These are hidden screws and if you try to force it open without taking these off you are in for a big trouble. I had to watch the process of taking this apart on the net and I am sharing with you what I have learnt.
Once these screws are off and the white cover is lifted you will see a lot of ribbon cables that have to come out to go deeper into this controller.
All the ribbon cables are disconnected and to make it even better to work with, I de soldered the motor black red wires on both sides but that is optional if you do not want to do it because the board can be flipped out while there are still connected to the board.
The board is flipped backwards and I can see more stuff inside the controller.
I am trying to reach the ribbon flex cable that controls all the button functionality because sometime all it needs just cleaning but in this one I was not that lucky.
More screws have to come off and on the right side you can see part of the ribbon flex cable that I am trying to reach and if you take a closer look you would see the damage there.
On the far right of the photo I could see two lines that are damaged and I could see some water damage on that flex and that explains the fault.
It is any easy process to replace the ribbon flex cable because it is cheap and easy to be found in my area.
There are guide lines on the plastic controller surface to pin this flex cable on and easy to follow.
Once that part is replaced you can you put it back together and test the controller. I connected it to my Iphone program and tested it and it was working just fine.
