This is a common problem with Subarus, our 02' Forester had an identical fault - I repaired those dry joints on the SMB resistors 15 years ago, and it is still working faultlessly. Apparently Subaru charge like a wounded Bull for this clock - and it appears to detach the joint around warranty expiry time!
