Sir jestine,
The topic which has given above is very conveyable to new comer technicians. Because, i have experienced in this regards and my teacher was also taught us always regarding home servicing.
According to my worthy and respected teacher / trainer and me home servicing is very cheap business tech tics. Because, technician not only gives his repair expertise but his also gives his prestige, dignity and respect with repairing work to customer, and also, customer may be argued after solved problems i.e. What you did and why we pay you huge amount for small work.
Actually, everything have some wight and many things counts some cost. due to this reason technician havings time and repair techniques, which need to be calculated in cost / amount. thats why there is no reason to calculate amount in work except experience repairing and perfect solution.
so, therfore need to be thinked about home service job. there is no substitute available against respect and prestige.
To conclude all, home servicing is easy way to get money but easiest way to loose dignity. So, its upto the person what is the highest weight of his life, Money OR Dignity, Prestige.

thanks you

Hi John,

Another great sharing-thanks! Ya you are right too, if the TV set is too big it will be difficult to be carry around and may scratch the TV set too. So from the few posts we can conclude that it depends on what type of equipment you are repairing. If it is big then we may have to repair at customer place and the equipment is small then it will be better to bring it back to workshop. Again this repair job depends on your preference and the nature of your repair business.

in my area it is necessary to do in home service,I specialize in Big Screen repair and Know one want's to lug a 50"-60" TV into the shop, including me...LOL...it is much easier to do it in the customers home.So what did I do? I made a mobile shop, my vehicle has all parts all test equipment I bring proper lighting everything I need including cold drinks and food.....sometimes I can spend up to 5 hours in one customers home, the most I usually ever have to do is 2 trips because I had to order parts, but you have to charge for all you time still.People are willing to pay good money to fix big TVs, so it is worth the 2 trips if I get paid for it.Also the warranty companies want me to fix all TVs in the customers home also they send all parts to the end user. Also the number one reason my Technician mess up customers sets like a scratch or so was always getting the TV from home to shop and then back to the customers home. Then customer is mad because of a scrath or dent, this never happens when not moving the set except to open.In my experience the In home service is becoming the way of things.I have reduced my over head by not having a huge store front, also everyone would prefer you come to them, and like I said I mostly fix very big TVs.I see in home TV service Having a huge come back.It is just necessary to flex with the times and change to do what is needed to do repairs and make money.

yea I used to do that but now a days, it is hard to do that any more. sometimes I go to a house and open the tv up and you could see all the dust in there. it is hard to see the condition of the parts so I have to dust it and the customer's wife does not like it. secondly, not a good lighting conditons and space so you can see what is going on and move around. thirdly, you can not take all the parts with you to the house so you have to keep driving back and forth with the car to get part or anything else. so it gets expensive. so I decided not to do that any more.
my shop has good space, good lighting, and I can dust the tv in there which make is much easier to work in the shop rather than the house.

Hello Jestine.....Yes this is what I do every day....My company specializes in "in home service"......in the past 4 years we only had to bring 1 TV back to shop for further repair.I enjoy meating all the people in the field, sometimes it's crazy!!Because we are one of the only in home service places left, it has become very profotable again in past couple years because of the warranty companies looking for professionals to service there customers, and they prefer everything to be done at the customers home. For your information, the 1 i had to bring back, needed a optic block cleaning and this could not be done in the home because of the danger of introducing contaminants into the projection unit that would effect the picture...the TV was left in the home but the optic block came back to the shop.....
