Replacement For SMD Diode

If you come across a SMD diode that the part number could not be found from the internet, what would you do? Assuming the SMD diode had a short circuit. Do you just remove a similar size SMD diode from another board (although with different part number) and test the circuit out? Although i rarely see SMD diode shorted, if i come across one and i do not know the spec, i would just use Uf4007 diode to test the circuit. Since i have no other choice, so far this is the best method for me to test the circuit and hope that it will work.
What would you do if you face similar problem like me?

Hi Jestine,
I have tried this before for a JVC TV with power cut off after a few second,its not a diode problem but a transistor problem.I accidently damage the Smd transistor and hard to find the original part.I knew that the trans was a NPN trans so I have no choice ana I replaced with a normal bipolar NPN transistor and it works perfectly.I think for the diode also can.

good info about the diode. I came across a shorted smd diode in the phone base. someone put a phone base that was made in the states and need only 110 volts, he put it on 220 volts. the transformer was brunt along with some parts inside the phone base. one of the parts that gone bad was a diode. it has writings on it so I replaced it without any problems.

Hi,
I am repairing crest audio power amp and some components were SMD TYPE OF DIODE was shorted, Is There any replacement which I Can easily get in the market as a replacement?the value showing in the part is L K then at the bottom part 3 A and and when I look at the same amplifier the the part number of the diode is different shows LK 44 A, My question is, Is it posible if I can use any ordinary diode as rectifier? or is there any posible effect if I change it,with?

Hi Tomas,
Usually it is very hard to find replacement for diode in SMD package. Yes you can always use a normal diode as rectifier for replacement. Let the machine run to see if the diode hot or not. If it is hot then i guess the replacement part would not work and you may need to replace with other part number.

hi i have circuit of mercedes benz diagnosis multiplexer, i check the diode with the multimeter what i did is i put the multimeter in diode function mode and then i removed 1 leg of diode from the circuit and test it showing short so what dodes it means whether i should replaced with another or is there any other to test that diode. please reply

HI Burhan,
If you have confirm that it is a diode and have tested it with your meter and it shows short circuit then the diode is faulty and need replacement.

I am looking for a replacement component. It is labeled D1 on the board which I assume to be a diode, or transistor of some type and it has the label L4 printed on it. The picture below shows what it is if anyone knows what it is that would help me a lot.

Hi Jestine,
Let me know you, I've been repair the smps power supply 24V.
Two mosfets broken and the other smd part, one diode broken too.
The code was 2U67 and it's difficult to find the same type.
What's your suggest to replace that smd diode part?

HI Marualita,
Sorry no info on that part number and i guess you may need to try to put in the bigger size diode instead of the SMD. Try UF4007.

Toshiba LCD TV model 32AV600E with no picture connected to antenna and video. found that faulty SMD diode marked 5-6 from main board and could not find the manufacturer. how to fix this ?

Sorry no info on this. Guess you may have to use other part number to test it out (trial on error).
