Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 Repair (With Video)
Some tablet repairs are painful to say the least. Gentle use of a heat gun, lifting tools to separate the screen from the body and then carefully detaching the ribbon cables without damaging them. Time consuming and frustrating to say the least!
Fortunately with this repair, access to the necessary components was fairly easy.
The customer was complaining that the charge cable would fall out of the port and therefore would not charge the battery.
If the cable managed to be carefully balanced in place and charge the battery, it would only take 1 hour of use before it would require charging again.
I was surprised how easy the back cover could be removed. In fact, once started, simply using my fingernail released the plastic clips. Firstly, removal of the SD card is important as well as starting in areas where no cables are present.
Once the back cover is off and the inner workings are exposed, cable hold-down tape should be removed and the clips that hold the ribbon cable are gently lifted to allow the cables to be slid out of place.
Although I forgot in this case, the battery connector should be removed before any electrical repairs are carried out.
The next step was simple: remove 4 screws and take out the battery. Install the new battery and correctly dispose the old one into recycling. Unlike other charge ports I have had to replace in the past, this one was simple. Just remove 2 screws and a cover plate. Installing the new charge port is simply a reversal of the process.
When installing the ribbon cables, ensure they are pushed in all the way.
No gold terminals should be exposed and the connector edge should be as close to the white line on the ribbon cable as possible.
Oh, of course, don’t forget to reinstall the battery connector , otherwise all your hard work will account for nothing!
Before clipping the back cover into place, turn on the tablet, make sure all the function are working, including sound, video and Wi-Fi. Check the connections to the internet and while you are there, watch an educational program for your enjoyment 🙂
Once the back panel is securely in place, connect the charge cable and check that the battery is being charged. This is shown by a little lightning bolt through the battery symbol and an increasing battery charge percentage. Finally, the SD card is installed.

Good job Mark. It is often the connector that is defect by a owner that was not careful enough. When in the near future USB and charging both make its way wireless the need of a cable and its connector is no longer required!

I think they still have a bit of work to do before they have a really efficient wireless charging system. But, with technology, it's only a matter of time 🙂
