samsung subwoofer repair

The complaint of this Samsung subwoofer was no sound and the customer said he saw a mouse went into that hole.

The first test I done on this subwoofer is to check the speaker Ohm and as expected there was no reading-see the photo below:

testing speaker

The next step was to detach the cover so that I could check what was wrong with it. In my opinion the speaker wire could have been broken.

Once the screws of the speaker had been removed my guess was right-the speaker wire was torn and the culprit was the mouse-see the photo below:

broken speaker wire

The next thing to do is to search for a new speaker wire and my compartment had one-see the photo below:

new speaker wire

After done the soldering of the new wire onto the speaker I rechecked the speaker Ohm resistance and found that it shows 4.8 ohm which means it was good.

I knew that if the customer take back his subwoofer, I can guarantee that the same mouse will attack the speaker wire again thus I came out with a solution which is to put in a metal net to block the mouse from going into the subwoofer again.

Take a look at my idea below and I hope the customer will catch the mouse soon.

Have you found any mouse nests in the sound-isolating material?

Nice repair Suranga, you seem to be very busy and still take the time to share with us. Thank you very much for that.

A cat would have been another solution but it needs more maintenance 🙂 I have 3 cats at home, the mice have no chance...

    Cheers,
    GM

Well done! Saved a sub woofer, which otherwise would have found its way to Scrap dealers! It would have been equivalent to killing one for catching cold! You are sharing almost all your experiences here and it is good for people like us! Good job! Best wishes!

Easy repair, however as someone pointed out before if you haven't seen any evidence of the mouse it's unlikely to be the suspect. If it is though that material won't stop him. I'm unfortunately familiar with those damn pests and they eat that material up too. Nothing beats the spring traps
