This 51 inch Samsung plasma TV problems with the model: no PS51E450 /chassis –F5AA was won’t turn on and always in standby mode.

Samsung Plasma TV

I normally start troubleshooting the power supply board (BN44-00509) first for any abnormality. The connector CN802 (photo 1) was disconnected and all the output voltages on the connector pins were measured. The VS and VA voltages were found to be missing.

On visual inspection on the board, I found the high voltage capacitor CS809 has burnt mark on one of the lead as shown in photo 2. The capacitor was de-solder for confirmation. It was  found to be open circuit.

After changing the capacitor, the voltage of VS and VA rises to around 200V and 58V respectively. This confirmed that the power supply is working normal so I reconnect the connector CN802. With the power on VS and VA re-measured again, the voltage is returned to zero again. I suspect the Y-sustain was faulty, when CN5006 was disconnected the voltages of VS and VA is back to normal. The TV can be activated now and the TV sound channel can be heard.

Visual inspection of the Y-sustain board (LJ41-10181A/LJ92-01880A) , there was sign of overheating around Q5037 see photo 3.and 4

This burnt mark on the pcb provide a very good  indication of overheating and maybe defective components. All the power devices around the pcb burnt mark  were checked with a multi-meter and  as expected the following components were found to be shorted:

  1. Q5037-K10A500 (MOSFET)
  2. Q5030-SMK630 (MOSFET)
  3. Q5003-FGPG4536 (IGBT)
  4. D5005-SF10A400H (FAST RECOVERY RECTIFIER)

After changing all the above mentioned  defective components, the TV set come alive when power is turn  on.

Although the video looks normal, it is advisable to reconfirm  and calibrate the settings if necessary  for the power and Y-sustain board to avoid overloading the panel. The test points for Vs, Va ,Vsc and Ve are clearly marked on the boards and the voltages can be calibrated with a multi-meter with reference to the manufacturer printed label on the panel (photo 5). Samsung alignment are quite straight forward and does not require an oscilloscope as compare with LG.

You can measure the VS and VA output voltages without load or standalone i.e testing the power supply without connecting to any boards. If your power supply is normal the VS and VA voltages will stay , I suspect yr power supply is faulty on the assumption that yr standby 5V is normal. You may try trouble-shooting the ic'S ICS801S and ICP801S. One or both of them could be faulty.
      Good luck.

I have a plasma ps51e490 tv where the tensions are missing (va vs)
I replaced the failed components on the ysus module but without results. even if I disconnect the ysus connector I do not have the voltages (va vs) immediately go down to 0volt.this power supply works even without load?

The fault came from a design problem (underrated components). I suspect that the same components will fail again from overheating.

Dear Mr SK Wong. Thanks for the article on troubleshoot Samsung plasma TV no power. My Samsung plasma TV blacked out after a pop sound. The led light blinks 6 times when powered with remote.Tried checking the PSU board but no damaged component found.Based on your tips, further checking found a burnt ceramic capacitor near heatsink of the Y-sustain board.I already replaced it, but feels that need checking some more. Your comment, please whether this will fix the issue or need to test further.Thank you.

Hello Chandran if you read this - I have had exactly the same problem - C5009 on the Y sustain board was blown up. Replaced the Y board and the PSU board but still dead. Did you fix your fault and how did you do it ?

I have a Samsung plasma that won't turn on or red light standby. Lost 3 Samsung TV's in a storm, 2 32 inch LED's and one 51 inch plasma. 2 LED's were fixed with power supply boards. Plasma PN51E450A1FXZA year Oct. 2012 VS-ADJ PC8V003132. Replaced power board version TS04 with no results. I'm not sure what's next to check/replace. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You in advance!

Thanks a lot. You won't believe this. I have a TV just like that and the component that were burnt were the same as yours: Q5037-K10A500 (MOSFET, Q5030-SMK630 (MOSFET) and Q5003-FGPG4536 (IGBT). So your article directed me straight to the failed components. Thank you again.

Can you offer any suggestions on the following fault ( same model as in this article ). TV went pop , picture failed but sound remained. after switching off and on sound also gone.
Found Capacitor C5009 Near top left of Y sustain board blown up. Changed board and picture briefly appeared then disappeared. Suspected PSU so changed the board, fault remained the same. 5V present but Vs and Va absent on both boards. your article seems to indicate that the PSU is always running 24 hours a day ? could it be that Vs and Va are switched on/off by the main board as needed ? I can get replacement boards (2nd hand) cheaply so board changes are not a big problem. Got any suggestions ?
Many thanks for your attention ,

    David Jones. (In Wales !)

David Jones here - I should have mentioned the flashed fault codes which are a bit odd !
dash longdash longdash longdash dash pause dash pause pair of quick dots repeated 5 times. This last bit (5 pairs of dots ) then repeats ad infinitum. please forgive the morse code analogy but how else could I describe it ! ! !

    Hello,
I recently got a Samsung Plasma TV PS-42c96HDX for free.
I fixed the smtp board which had bad capacitors at the bottom right part .
I checked voltages outputs and everything seems to be ok. when I switch on the the TV I have Vs / Va / Vamp 18v / Vg / 12v / DC 5.3V / STD 5V as expected.

The logic board led is blinking and I can see the red light from the optic source on the main board.
The main board processors are hot.

But there is no start up sound and a very fade image backlight seems to flicker a little.

At this point, I could think I got a problem with X Board or Y Board but would it prevent the tv from starting correctly ?

I followed the service manual instructions and I disconnected X board, Y board and Logic board from STPM but TV did not started.

Reconnecting each board one by one didn't make it too.

    Any Idea, please ?
    Thank you !

    Hi, Mr. S K Wong,

I have Samsung 43" Plasma TV 43H4900 model which is 6 yrs old. Yesterday the TV just stopped working with a "kaput" noise and observed that my MCB tripped. I checked with other appliance and found that the power socket at wall is fine.
What may be the issue? Let me tell you that I have no idea about any of these electronic repairs. I just want to know what is the actual fault and also to check if the service engineer is cheating me or not.
    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Somantak Ghosh
