Servicing WorldTech Car Reverse Monitor
This Car Reverse Monitor-cum-FM/USB player fit in my car was found defective one day. It was intermittently getting on and off. While driving, it was giving beep sounds whenever getting on. So, I decided to take it out and investigate what went wrong. To remove this, we need to slide it out of the rear view mirror, where it is attached with a spring loaded clip. The connecting cable would be hidden on the roof, which you have to slide out, and disconnect from its male connector. In my car, it was running under the false covering on the side, which we have to pull out by hand.
Opened the set and cleaned it, though there was no dust or dirt inside it. We have to remove the holding screws from behind and then pry the cover open from its locks.
Traced the positive and negative wires, which were Red and Black, in this case (need not be so always with Chinese Made devices!). It was coming to a pin next to the notch on the connector. The ground was on the 6th from there on this 7 pin socket.
Applied 12V power and noticed that it was not coming on. On further check up, I could trace that it was due to dry solder on the female connector on the PCB. So disconnected, and did dry solder patch on the pins and a few other places also. Cleaned the PCB and applied power. It was working.
Checked FM as well as USB modes. It worked very well. Assembled it back, took it to the car and connected it to check whether the reverse monitor was working. It too was working well! So, slid the monitor on the rear view mirror and concealed the cable as it was before.
I played a song from USB, picture of which is what you see first in the article. I connected the Auxiliary cable to my Sony Car Systems and it was found working very well.
So, no more disturbing and detracting ‘beep’ sounds while driving! Another very satisfied easy fix got added to my ‘avaricious’ list!
