Slightly Bulged Electrolytic Capacitor
I believe you have seen electrolytic capacitors that bulged in electronic board. If the bulged is too severe the top cap may split open and some of it has a big hump. The question is should we replace the e-cap if it has only a slight bulged? Not only that the slightly bulged electrolytic capacitor may be tested good using analog meter, digital capacitance meter and even ESR meter. The bulged cap just haven’t reach till it could cause problem yet.
If i see this kind of slightly bulged cap, i would not test it with meters instead i will just directly replace it.The cap later on will surely develop problem either the hump will become bigger or it may cause intermittent problem. I just don’t want to take the risk of the equipment send back later by customer telling me that the equipment have problem again. I would like to solve it once and for all in order to prevent callback. For your information, callback from customer will only take up more of your time and you will not earn anything from the second repair.
