HI GC,

Fan rotates and stop is one of the most toughest problem to locate because the cause can be in the primary or secondary. Have you check the components in the primary side. What about the optoisolator circuit ? For your information you need to connect an adequate load for the SMPS to work. Without load sometimes the fan will rotates and stop.

Hi Yong,

I regularly read ur articles about servicing. They are very helpful in many cases which can't be repaired by me without reading those articles even though i have circuit diagrams and servicing manuals. Currently I am repairing ATX SMPS which is quite new aroung 4 months and sparingly used total of around 100 hours in these 4 months. It suddenly died and now when PW switch pressed SMPS fan just rotates and then dies. Every time i tried it is in same condition. I checked all condensors in secondary and looks good. Can u help me, I want to try a hand on it.

Thanks.

Hi Jestine, nice sites, really. I´d like to ask you, if you could send me some schematics for ATX 300W power supply.
For the repair, it is a must and I cannot find any. Thank you very much. Best, Jan

Hi,
It could be the surrounding resistors or capacitors have problem. I came across resistors open circuited and capacitor shorted that caused power good turned into 0 VOLT. Try change the IC’s, it could also cause the problem too. By the way, what is your name?
