Hi Albert,

I found your repair guide about replacing the TDA2658 IC in Philips Color Monitor because i was looking for help to repair my CM 8833.

When i turn it on I got no power led but i can hear an high pitch whining effect like if it was still generating EHT voltage at the anode. i also got no picture...

I was using it with my Amiga for 2 hours and then when i connected my supergun for my neogeo mvs that i bought from retroelctronik he failed about 10min later...

Many many thanks for your e-mails with different important & useful links.

Though I am / was working with Electronics for the last forty-five years. Worked with Navy for more than twelve years. Later worked with British Firm Marconi International Marine Co. (M.I.M.C.O.) as Radio Technician & Radio Service Engineer for more than seven years. Later worked onboard Merchant Navy Vessels as Radio Officer & whenever I was on leave, worked as Free Lancer Technician / Radio Surveyor with different Companies. Presently working with a Company dealing with Electronic Navigation / Communication Equipment. I am not directly involved in repairing of Electronic Equipment at component level, but am much intrested in learning the latest techniques etc. Whenever I get time, I go through your articles and enjoy all.

Thanks Humberto. I hope to see another article from you like the interesting Line Protector repair you did. But maybe complete with schematic (only a LM324 used and a lot of passive components and a relay) or part list. Or decent resolution photos would be nice to be able to tell the component values. We do not have these devices in our country but it could be useful in case we get an occasional power surge. It could help to protect my valuable Tektronix Oscilloscopes and/or other devices. But then maybe enhanced with an upgrade to a larger relay too.

Thanks Lynn. Yes they still work great and present a clear bright picture because of the glass crt tube. Like now only the LCD monitors, and television sets, with the glass plates on front show the same clear bright pictures too!

Great Job Albert. I owned a magnavox monitor one of the first to display 80 characters on a horizontal line. We used it on a commodore 64 and 128.
after selling the commodore's I used it on my test bench to compare with color tracking, on tv's. It had the best crt color tracking of any set we compared it with. You could turn the color off and it would display black and white. Then turn the brightness up or down and it would render black and white all through the range.

I will have a look back who sold them to me and see if it still exist as item. And I will post my reply here later. But possibly it was a one time sell like often is the case with on-line products.
