The Size Of SMD ICs

Nowadays, the SMD ICs are shrinking to smaller sizes.If you look at the picture and compare the small ICs with the 1/4 watt resistor, you will know that indeed it was very small. Even sometimes we have to be careful when testing it by using our test probes because if the test probe did not really hold onto the pin it can easily slip and touch on the other pin causing more problem to the set or to the IC. If you do not have a proper tools, you may have a hard time to solder it out. The best is to use a rework station for this kind of job. I’m wondering, in the future how small the SMD ICs can it go some more-like the size of a sand?

I was working on a Mag LCD screen and two ic's were burnt. 4511GM. they were too tiny and I had to use the rework station. by the time I finished soldering them, I felt pain in my eyes becase I was using a magnifyer glass to see my work..any way, I am glad it is over.

Sometimes, me too have problem with the eyes if concentrate too much using magnifying glass.

I'm glad I am not the only one, after working with a magnifier for a long time in the past I have had I pain as well as my vision being out of focus for quite some time afterwards. It made me nervous.

Yes you both are correct, I am using a pro'skit magnifying glass with florescent lighting and really magnified and the enlargement is super except to long looking at it also makes one dizzy, I am going to purchase one from a friend with enlargement projected to a LCD screen, I think it's far more better. How's your opinion brother Jestine?

There is a USB microscope that can act as a webcam and at the same time a microscope camera rolled into one. It has a software that can take a picture and measure the object you want. The brand is DinoLite Digital microscope (around 400 USD) http://www.dino-lite.com/. It comes with a boom/holder for the camera with different zoom level (up to 400X) and megapixels.
There is an equivalent and made in China and the price is 40 USD.
This is good for repairing small SMDs for cellphones and the like.
This is a good option instead of a magnifying glass or under a microscope. You can use this to inspect fine cracks either on the component or on the board.
You can use your LCD, laptop or even a projector! You can even start your own microscope photography.
Our operator mostly rely on microscope all day, then complain a lot about their eyes. This is our cheap alternative and it works fine so far.
