Thank you Parasuraman. Since this was an easy repair I added the extra informative facts, after testing, that any IDE/P-ATA CD-ROM drive will also work. And that this original quite expensive multi Player also can be Firmware upgraded by using a Boot CD. But keep in mind that although this Firmware upgrade also can add functions like Region Free (if I remember this well), using a wrong Yamakawa version renders the Player to Kingdom come!

That's also the reason why they called NTSC also Never The Same Colour !
By-the-way: PAL means because what it does, Phase Alternating Line.

Yes that is very true Humberto. But in this Tokaï Player it is only a CD-ROM IDE Drive. Only the in the end mentioned Philips TV Player/Recorder uses a DVD Writer you mentioned.
When your country uses NTSC like in the USA, your TV sets also have an extra potentiometer for colour adjustments. PAL transmissions like used in Holland and also New Zeeland is in fact a improved NTSC transmission signal were every colour Chromatic Phase deviation is automatically corrected with the next following video line send/recieved. So every 2 video lines keeps each other Phase corrected. And we do not need the extra Chrome adjustment Knob on our TV sets at home.

Albert, you have a great device, I had never seen a DVD player using a PC DVD-drive. That's an advantage, because you can exchange it with another IDE-unit and you can upgrade the firmware too, very important this upgrade. I could see you use PAL Video Standard. In my country we use NTSC.
