Trying Out Different IC Part Number

Repairing Electronic equipment can be fun but sometimes when comes to getting the original spare parts, it might takes you lots of time. The only way out is to test out the replacement (substitution) part number and monitor how was the outcome. There is a different between getting a different spec by referring to data book or internet and using a replacement that you totally have no ideas what the spec is! In electronic repair, sometimes we can’t even know what is the spec because we can’t find any data from replacement book or even from internet. The best way is to test it out.

I’ve done this test and would like to share it to you. A Samsung 15″ 153v LCD Monitor came in with dim display and found few e-caps and a FET in an IC with the part number 4600 have problems. Since i have some 4532 IC (power trench ic) I tested it out to replace the 4600. For your information i do not have the 4532 IC data (i mean the volt, amp and etc) but i know that it was a FET built into IC from a schematic diagram i downloaded from internet. It works perfectly fine until few hours later where this replacement IC shorted again. I put back the original 4600 IC and it worked perfectly okay.

If it has been successful, then in the future i would use 4532 IC instead of 4600 (just in case if the 4600 IC have been used up) for replacement purposes. If you have the time you can try out different part numbers in your types of equipment. Write down all of the test and this could really in some way speed up your repair work.

Hi,
Usually this problem caused by a defective LCD DRIVER IC and sometimes dry contacts could also cause such problem. Try gently press the affected section with your finger and if the line is still there then chances is very high you need to replace the whole lcd panel.

Hi Sir Jestine,
This is my first time to write to you since i bought your ebook. Thanks to your ebook, it enhance my little knowledge in repairing tv sets. I have repaired 3 tv's so far, the two only have cold solders and the other one is a bad vertical ic. As of now I still cant repair tough dogs problem. I am currently repairing my cousin's samsung syncmaster computer monitor. The problem is, it shutdown after i power on the monitor. Ive check the hot on board and seems to be okay. i remove the hot and power on the unit and observe, i found the b+ fet gets hot and become shorted. Am i right taking the hot and power on the unit? I tried once taking voltage at collector and emitter of the hot removing the horizontal and vertical yoke cable and found no voltage. Is it in the power supply. I hope you can give me ideas on how to fix this problem. Thanks a lot and more power!!

i have some problem with my printed circuit board.ic blow up so, i can't find the correct ic id no.i find 3no with 1 alfabet (391m).
for your info this pcb using on led scoreboard display.i realy need your advise and support

Hey i have a laptop Acer Aspire 4736G new but its power IC is now damaged and i have lost its power IC so it is must for its preparation that what is its power IC number...Sir please tell me that what is its power IC number i am very poor i did't buy another Acer and i love Acer.....Sir i am waiting for ur reply please tell me as soon as possible thnx

  You mentioned that the power supply power IC could not see the part number thus you need to find the schematic/service manual because inside the manual it has the part number written on it.

  The only way to locate the power ic is to find the same machine to compare or find the exact schematic diagram/service manual.

Sir the location on Motherboard where that Power Ic is located in that location P5 is written. I think P5 is the part number where that Power IC is located so please kindly tell me the Power IC number …

  CPU Motherboard does not use power ic. I'm not sure what power ic you are repairing to. Power ic only can be found in ATX power supply of the CPU
