I checked too the math and I can say the calculation is closely as Lee Davey explain. He got a small mistake in the first formula bat he say, does the source voltage is 120V and there are a dissipation of 2V because of the LED. So I would make this formula just for better understanding:
R=(Usource - Uled)/Iled 
Where:
Usource is the input voltage of the voltage source to the circuit
Uled is the voltage what the LED need
Iled is the current what the LED need

I think he rounded the results in ohm because the true results are not possible to get in real resistor values.
So he changed the result to the nearest real resistor values.
If he does it so than he should tell that!

In my calculation for the resistor I got 6555.55 Ohm and I got the Xc=5643.
So I think its pretty good.]]></description>
