I need to do bench testing on the clusters and ECU and need the Comfort module as a gateway from K-Line to CAN.

Great info Christian (or Chris?)! I hope that VW didn't program anything lawfully wrong into the system you described if you know what I mean. As they probably are known now for the wrong reasons. (And VW still also being the biggest car manufacturer in Europe. I always thought them of the car with the engine that always starts, no matter how cold the weather!).
When you began your article with the line: "this network was constructed so they can manage digital messages between microcontrollers or devices through two wires and do not need any host computer", it immediately made me think of the I2C interface bus that was invented by the people of Philips one year earlier in 1982 (this protocol handles handshaking communication on Master and Slave devices with lines SDA and SCL <= being Serial Data and Serial Clock, and a ground wire). And Bosch invented the Can-Bus in 1983 originally for use in Mercedes cars. I suppose both systems are not that different, since they both use a form of Handshaking Protocol. Thank you for this interesting article on the CAN bus.
