how to repair welding machine

A welding technician and his older son brought this welding machine for repair. They mentioned something about the machine welding for one minute or less and then it goes into shut down. They disconnect it for about five minutes, starting the machine again it goes through the process of showing the red light which basically shutting down to protect the system from further damage.

This Turkish made welding machine went to another repair technician and he advised them to bring it to me for repair which I gladly accepted.

As I recalled the information that the customer provided me with that it shuts down after one minute or two; that led me to think it was cold soldering joints issue. So the first thing that I checked were the Mosfets  and there my suspicions were confirmed.

This is one of the areas where the Mosfets are and there are another four on the other side of this board. I did not add solder to the joints, instead, I de soldered all the joints then added fresh solder to all the Mosfets pins.

I scanned the entire board to see if there are more cold soldering joints but all checked fine.

In many articles I mentioned my brother who is a welding technician but this time I am actually showing him working on this welding machine I just repaired. The machine preformed amazingly well and to this easy fix I say…

Mission Accomplished.

A dear brother is always available for your brother, especially when such crisis arises! A big solace and a lovely relationship, indeed! Glad to see your brother at work, though I wonder why he is not wearing any dark goggles! Many thanks for sharing!

I do hope your brother normally protects his eyes and skin from the UV light rays that emit while welding. Only for the photo he probably didn't?
I know an old neighbor in one of the next buildings who in the 50's and 60's was welding gas pipes in my country for many years. That man now is in very bad health because he got extremely bad lungs from inhaling the fumes from welding. I believe they still do bring him oxygen bottles on a weekly base.

Albert. It was only for the photo. He usually takes the proper precautions but sometimes he doesn’t sad to say. Have a blessed day

Parasuraman: he was about to leave the shop when I came in to ask to try the machine for me. So he tested it really quick and closed his eyes while doing the test. I know it is wrong but that is how things are done in this area. Have a blessed day

Thanks for sharing. Another well-conducted repair work. I agree with you with the solder treatment. The correct is not adding solder; instead, removing the old solder, cleaning the area and put new fresh solder again is the best and professional action.
