# What Is The Resistor Value?

There was a unique resistor value that I would like to share with you-see the photo above. It is a 5 color bands resistor and many resistor value calculator software could not calculate this value. I have the answer but I need you to try figure it out first before I reveal the answer to you. Come fellow repairer lets try by clicking the submit comment button below.

actually this is not a standard resistor because the first band could not be the black color otherwise the decoding of this resistor would be
meaning less. also if we assum the first band of this resistor is green
(from other side) the second band is golden also there is no such color for second band in regular from of coding.... i think this resistor must
be very unique for a very special jobs like inside the voltmeter resistors
or some part of the tuners this is also a big resitor seems to me 2 watt...............

HI Beh,

Yes it is a 2 watt resistor. It is a unique resistor and hardly could see this kind of resistor in circuit board. Would you like to guess the ohm value?

5 (2 ZEROS) + (2 ZEROS) + (0 ZEROS) 5 00 00 = 50,000 OHMS

It seems to me is that -> 0 2 2 X 0.1 = 2.2Ω . And It's a four band resistor, that means it is a resistor of accurate value . It looks like as a Fusing Resistor .

Wow!!!!
I just looked at it closer and realized my first guess is wrong. Jestine this is a good one. My new guess is 2.2 ohm at + or - 5%.

Its physical sizing is suggestive of being a 2 watt unit.
The hi temp clad conformal casing is suggestive of a metal film type of construction under it.

Abberations of spiral widths under that conformal coating is suggestive of FEW spirals and being of a small ohmmic value.

Pull out your 41/2 digit Fluke ohmmeter and test, and see just how close it comes to reading out at .122 ohms at a .5% tolerance.

Now just HOW did I get my colors transposed from viewing the resistor, and then just getting all the way to the dialog box ?

Must be my dyslexia kicking in again !

With them being reversed, out of normal order, but reading a Red-Red-Black as being a 22 ohm resistor and then applying the .1 multiplier would shift it on down to 2.2 ohms and applying the Green .5% tolerance spec.
See if the Fluke agrees with that, and factor in test lead line resistance.

I think it is - Non-Standard E192 System Color coding . And it's value will be 2.2 ohms with ±0.5% .

I think it is a wound wire 200ohm with a .5% tolerance.

Hi sir i am noel gervais from Mauritius i need yuor help i come accross a resistor in the smps which have five colour band the first colour green bleue orange gold and bleue the last one in measuring with my DMM i got the value 563 kilo ohm so i don't know if the resistor is good are not in your electronic testing component ebook i read about the five band resistor code but i am not about this resistor i think it was a 563 kilo ohm but not sure please help thank

HI Noel,

From the 5 color band calculation it should be 56.3 ohm. Please refer to this link:

You got 563 Kilo ohm which mean the color code is green, blue, orange, orange, blue. But then again there is no 6% tolerance. Quite unique. Do you have a photo?
