What Makes You Want To Join Electronic Repair Line?

 electronic repair

As for me, i love electronics since at the very young age. I believe those who venture into this electronic repair line, like me love to dismantle thing and find out how the things work. After completion of my secondary school, i enrolled for a basic electronic course but never finish the course because i was accepted to study form six (you need to study form six in order to enter local university). My result was not good and i went to look for job. I’ve been a computer salesman, car salesman, work in supermarket, car mechanic, etc and i don’t work for long as i find it not challenging at all! I do not know why i failed to stick long in those jobs. Somehow deep in my heart long for a job that deals with electronics. To cut long story short, i managed to work in a computer firm specializing in repairing AT power supply and Monitors. I took up part time electronic courses and even completed the City and Guilds Of London exam. From that moment i joined the computer firm, i did not look back and continue to excel in electronic repair and further my studies. That time there were no internet access yet and the only resourses that i have was electronic repair books bought from the local bookstore. The first book i bought was about computer repair and the author name was Art Morgalis. Another book was Microcomputer Troubleshooting & Repair by John Stephenson and Bob Cahill (SAMS publication). From the first computer company that  i joined until now, everthing that i’ve done or doing sure have related to electronics. It seems that electronics can’t be separated from me. I do have others hobby too like fishing, internet marketing, reading books and etc but my priority still in electronics.

Don’t be surprise that i have a successful electronic repair friend that was “force” into this trade. Actually he is my working colleague in the first computer firm. He worked as a delivery man but because of lack of technician in the technical department, he was actually force to repair monitors by his superior. He never study electronics before even till today. He told me that he just blankly learned from mistake and asked other repair friends. Everyday he compares the bad and a good components until he got hold of this field and now he is a specialist in repairing Monitors include the LCD Monitors as well.

Another repair friend when i asked him why do you want to join this electronic repair trade? He told me that accounting work was very boring and not challenging. He gave up his profession and took up electronic repair as his main income. This mean he started to love electronics at the later age and not like us that love electronics since when we were young.

After reading the above post perhaps you have story that you want to share with us. I truly appreciate your comment, after all we just have to come back to our own Species (electronic repairers) to fellowship with each others.

its really intresting to discover that there is a lot of people with the same intrests .as for me the desire to repair electronics equipment started when i was still doing my primary education when i made a simple radio receiver based on certain advanced level physics textbook.by then i didnt know what symbol was for a diode or resistor but had to ask till i got the information from there now at secondary school i started looking a audio amp schermatics ,even though i never managed to make one ijust new one day i shall make it .after my secondary education i enrolled for electronics and was examined by C & G of london ,from there onwards electronics has been my life fixing mainly IT hardware.

My interest in electronics started when I was 7 years old, just like others I want to know how stuff works and if it breaks or stops working that is the time I let my hand do the working.During my secondary education I am very lucky that my school is offering Basic Electronics as a Technology subject, from that time Electronics became my hobby and my desire to improve my knowledge started....I am very thankful that there are a lot of GOOD PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING TO SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE....

I am a tinkerer. I would infuriate my parents by taking apart any mechanical toy I had just to see how it worked. Much to my surprise I was able to not only take things apart, I could put them back together again! That advanced to trying to repair anything broken. As i got older, I would start to pry open electrical devices. A few volts and jolts later I was replacing worn tubes in television sets. I now build and repair computers for friends and myself. I happened upon Jestin's website trying to find info for a 17" Dell LCD monitor. What a great guy! A person can easily tell that Jestine loves electronics. I think more importantly Jestine loves to teach and share his great knowledge. Good for you Jestine! The world needs more people like you!

Thanks to all of you who responded to this question and give comments and also to my faithful readers. Without your supports, this and the electronicrepairguide.com website would not be possible. Well from the comments it seems that those who already in this electronic repair line love electronics since when they were very young! Keep up the good work and may God bless all of you.

the reason why! is because of my profession as a computer technician. cause i found hard time repairing monitors and other hardwares devices such as powersupply(it gives me headaches .. depending on the damage result.)
i've been always fascinated how electronics worked, since highschool but it was never included in our curriculum. i can only take my chances by reading them in books and in our library at school..
it really helps me a lot.. cause i'm planning to have my own repair shop someday.. i have gained a little experience repairing some monitors, printers, avr, powersupply. i like to become an expert in repairing such computer related hardwares so that why i came upon you to gained and to expand my troubleshooting technics and knowledge in repairing such kind of devices ..and im glad that i found people like you who are open/ready to share knowledge and skills to improve others.. god bless and more power to you!!!!!!!!

I became interested in electricity at a early age. I joined the United States Navy and became a Radar Operator. After leaving the Navy I went to work for AT&T as a Telecommunications Tech.

I was fascinated with the telephone company and worked many jobs there. I installed some of the first Fiber Optic Systems in 1982. I was assigned to a digital crew and installed data lines (T1 & DSL) for business customers and performed maintenance on Rectifiers, Batteries and Emergency Generators. I also spent a lot of time in the field testing and locating trouble in underground telephone cable.

I now work in a small electronic repair shop in Los Angeles. I enjoy the work but will always miss the years I spent working for the American Telephone and Telegraph Company.
