Repair Of Blu-Ray Disc/Dvd Player
This Philip blu ray disc player was brought with complaint of disc tray not opening, l haven’t repair this type of device before, so I was curious about it,
infact I thought I was going to see surprising kind of boards different from what we see in conventional dvd player, but alas i was proven wrong.Having removed case cover I can see it’s no different from normal dvd player except its mainboard has LAN(local area network) which can be used for live streaming, also I understand conventional dvd player can’t play blu ray discs, while blu ray can play both.
So what I first did was to pull out the tray to check the sliding mechanism and grease the area, test opening and closing switch for shot or open…switch is good, assemble tray back and power device, press open/ close button….tray slide open & close sloggishly
Then I tested tray sliding motor with analog meter,it did roll(turn)presumably pass test, then replace the rubber belt, power device again, tray slide out sloggishly again.
This time I now suspected motor not running at expected RPM,
so I did replace it,then power device again….wow tray slide open & close at normal slow speed, open it again, slot in a dvd disc which play perfectly, below pictures explain more
This the finished repair work.

Yes, blue ray works with a lot of extra arrangement to play high resolution (1080P) DVDs with better clarity. But rest is same. Many thanks for sharing this interesting fix!

I understand that only the tray motor and the belt were faulty. So the laser unit before this replacement was originally still fine and would have played any disc perfectly if a dvd or bluray was inserted manually without using the failing tray. These tray motors probably have no type marking label on them, but it would have been nice to know what its specs are. Anyway nice job Imoudu!
