Electric Salt and Pepper Grinder Set for Repair
Received HAUSHOF 2 Pieces Electric Salt and Pepper Grinder Set for repair, stating One Unit is not working & other one is working intermittent.
This unit is Rechargeable and comes with Docking station for charging. Connected the device on charging, found both Unit was not showing any charging indication.
Checked Docking station for supply voltage.
5V is visible at the docking station’s charging points, which seems correct since the mobile is being charged using a Type-C cable and the adapter is also rated for 5V.
May be both the Batteries drained out, so for confirm I dismantled the unit.
Removed 4 screws from the bottom of the dispenser & slide out upper part gently.
Took out the Battery (Battery model 14280 Rated 3.7v / 300mAh) & Checked voltage it shows 1.8v seems Battery is Drained. Confirmed the working of the unit by attaching external battery.
After connecting an external battery, I pressed the On/Off switch, and the motor started spinning along with the LED light, indicating that the original battery is faulty. Now, two things need to be checked: whether the battery itself is defective or if there is an issue with the charging circuit.
I “kick-charged” the suspect battery using another properly functioning 18650 batteries and connected the suspect battery to an external power source via the charging circuit.
And the red indicator light for the battery charging circuit turned on. I kept the unit powered on for two hours so the battery would fully charge. After two hours, I disconnected the external power and checked the battery voltage; it showed 3.7V, which seems fine. This confirms that the charging circuit is fine, but there is still a doubt as to whether the battery can hold the charge for the proper duration.
Now, I still needed to figure out why the battery didn’t charge while docked. Is the power supply reaching the PCB?
Traced Pogo pins connection & checked Continuity from Pin to PCB Points, here continuity is Ok.
Docking showing perfect voltage but it is not reaching to the PCB.
I removed the pogo pin unit and inspected it with a magnifier. I found that the negative (-ve) pin on one side lacked spring action and appeared oxidized; I cleaned the unit using thinner. I then freed the stuck pin and pressed it down.
(I knew that this was a specially designed pin unit that wouldn’t be easily available in the market, and modifying it by sourcing a separate pin would take a lot of time.)
I checked the second unit in the same way; its battery was also discharged, but the pogo pins were intact—they just had some oxidation on them. I revived that battery as well.
Finally, after reassembling everything, I placed both units on the docking station and powered them on, but the charging light would turn off with even the slightest movement. I fixed this by scraping the docking station’s contacts and applying a small blob of solder so that the contacts would rise up to meet the pogo pins.
Now put the unit on charge & now it charging properly .
After fully charging the unit, I did not use it for three days and then checked its operation without recharging; this confirms that the battery is in good condition and the unit is ready for use.

As usual a clear and professionally done repair!
I hope these grinders have decent metal grinding teeth because the cheaply made manual grinders use plastic teeth that they say may mix plastic particels with the salt or pepper. Which can be unhealthy having added into our bodies.

Thank you !Albert
You are quite right; the internal mechanism of this unit is made of plastic, and there is no telling how long it will last. In my opinion, it is not really needed in India, as people here typically grind their own spices—often in quantities that last for months—and keep them ready for use. This is merely a showy accessory intended to make your dining table look more sophisticated.
