A Turkish Welding Machine With Power Issues Repaired And Maintained

A welding technician and a friend of mine brought this dead welding machine for repair. When I powered it on there was no sign of life in it so it was time to take it apart and see what is wrong.

Turkish welding machine are very cheap and very often they go bad either

with bad power switch or shorted Mosfets but this time it was something different but easy.

Look how dirty that machine is and so before doing anything to it, I gave it a good clean with air blower.

It looks much better but some dust was still stuck on that board but I will worry about that later.

The first thing that attracted my eyes was these power cables and from the look of them they seem damaged.

broken wire

And as you can see in the photo, the ground cable was also damaged and needed some TLC (Tender Loving Care).

how to test voltage in welding machine

Testing the AC before the power switch I got this very low reading.

I am supposed to get at least 190 AC volts but I did not.

fixing wire in plug

When checking the main power plug, the phase wire was loose and the other cables did not look great either. So first thing to do is cut the old wires of and connect them the way it should be.

I took my crimping tool out and started working on the cables inside the machine.

Looking at the way, you are restoring the welding machines and extending its life span, I wonder whether the Welding Machine Manufacturers' association would arrange to send James Bond, for obvious reasons! (LOL) Anyhow, a job well done from our side! That is a wonderful collection of crimping tools and accessories!

Such a crimping tool of course is always handy but I'm sure you also could have fixed it without one.

A Van Bemmelen: indeed I could fix it without the crimping tools but it would not have looked as professional as it did..have a blessed day.
