A Very Simple Fix To A Dead Digital Scale

A hard ware store owner brought me a dead scale that he has and wanted it fixed. He found a lot of things in this storage room and this scale was one of the devices that he found there.

I powered it on and there was no sign of life whatsoever. There is usually a back up battery in there but for some reason, the battery was missing.

Power was coming through the power cord and was getting to the black box but there was no power reading coming out of the black box which is an indicator that the fault lays in that box so I opened it and hoped for the best.

Power was coming though the two red wires and existing through the red and yellow ones.

I measured through a fuse resistor with the indicators are and guess what? It was open and I am sure that is the only fault here.

I soldered it off and board and measured again and it was for sure open and need a replacement.

I could not find the exact replacement but I found a close one, I replaced it and tested out the scale.

The power came on indicating the power was reaching the main backup battery so that was a very good sign.

I put everything back together, pressed the power button and sure enough, the scale came one and was according to specs. I called the customer for pick up and of course he was happy with the result and I will be working on more stuff from the same customer soon.

Mission Accomplished.

Good job. At best we here should use Fusible resistors. Those are used as safety fuses to prevent electrical fires and other damage caused by excessive current being applied at once. If we use stronger current resistors or standard metal resistors they probably won't work as such.

When I first saw the larger replacement I thought 'great' till I read it was a fuse.

Anwar: yes, it was a fuse and that is the only fuse resistor that I could find in the shop without wasting any more time on it and so far no complaints from the customer. have a blessed day
