Dirty Strip Wire Caused Freezing Of IDEN Car Stereo
This belonged to a person living close by and was brought to me with the complaint that it got frozen and did not respond to remote or any controls on panel. They had to take assistance of an electrician to disconnect the wire, who removed the Player and suggested for a detailed checkup, recommending my name.
After opening the top cover, I noticed a lot of dust and dirt collected inside. It was a very cheap stuff with only one board in the front with connections at the rear for speakers, power supply and antenna. I removed the front panel and cleaned the inside thoroughly. Cleaned the contacts on the strip wire using IPA, taking care not to dislodge the plastic holder. In order not to make a mistake of connections, I went to their home and took snap of the rear connections to ensure that the B+, switch on and ground connections are traced on the socket.
I did this, as was a very cheap model and we cannot expect standard connections like any other. Though, we can trace the connections without that, it is better to know it from the other side of the connector.
The red (B+ via switch, Yellow-Battery +, and black-Ground) were in standard order. The speaker – & + connections were also standard. I came back and gave power connections by shorting yellow and red.
The set came on and I played USB and tried FM too and it worked very well. I am also giving a few pictures of inside for those who are interested to see:

I guess it only looked like a cheap car stereo with only one board in the front with connections at the rear for speakers plus power supply and antenna. Because it still was a well designed easily fixable service-friendly car player.

good job on the repair and thanks for sharing the story and mainly the photo inside that car stereo. hardly anything in there. I used to repair such devices and at time, the device was full of boards and it was heavy and worth fixing. today they are too light, break fast and cheap. have a blessed day
