      Hi Jaspreet,

Check if the CRT RGB transistors is getting the right dc supply voltage or not. Check also the video preamp ic. Direct replace and retest.

      Hi Zwei,

It could be cause by a weak tube or the heater voltage is not within spec or there are dirt/decayed glue at the heater crt board area.

You need a high voltage probe to check the high voltage. You can also feel with the hair pulled when you place your hand in front of the screen.

    Happy 2015.
I have a 20 years old 12" CRT monitor for machine. The problem is when I turn on, it used to take few minutes before the word displayed on it. But now, the word is very dim that I can't read it even few hours after I turn it on. What can be the problem and how to fix it.
    Thank you.

      HI Alex,

If the heater and G2 (screen voltage) are normal probably is the tube problem. Please visit this link for more info:

      HI Zinja,

You may have to make sure the power supply output are good before checking on the crt board. Compare the RGB voltage in term of voltage and signals. Sometimes it can be due to bad tube.

      HI Kishan,
Make sure the dc supply to the vertical ic is within spec. A too high dc supply will cause the vertical ic to run hot. In rare cases like shorted vertical yoke winding will also cause such problem.

      Hi Md Maruf,
In order for the flyback to work normally, it needs a good B+ supply voltage and a pulse to the base of HOT. Have you checked the B+ and the pulse? Missing one of the signal will cause no high voltage/no display symptom. Sorry i do not provide video call services.

I have a CRT TV which was fine, but one time turning it on the display is curling at the bottom couple of centimetres, and showing both an overlapping of the image correct orientation, over the top of the same image (but in backwards arrangement). So for example, watching film credits you see them scroll up, around and then down! The colours are fine, and the rest of the display is fine. This affects all channels, and also all connected devices - ie. playstation games are equally affected.

What causes this, can it be repaired, or is a new TV needed?

I suggest that you check the vertical output ic area. It can be due to bad vertical ic, improper dc supply voltage , dry joints or even bad components like bad cap in that area.

The big filter cap if is is rated as 400 to 450 vdc then it should not have a 600 v reading. First thing is, does the power supply produce the right output voltage or not?

    Hey Jestine,
i bought a old CRT tv, from the looks of it like 60/70's old. (black and white btw)

now with all kinds of different devices i can get good signal, the sound quality is fine, the screen itself is working, and the image does come through, but very disturbed. the horizontal lines are extremely streched out. giving a butchered image. now it does have enough buttons on the back to set the vertical stuff right, which works fine. but not horizontal.
    have you got any idea?

Check the G2 screen voltage adjustment. The G2 voltage should have at least 250 to 300 vdc. Sometimes a weak tube may cause such symptom.

Have you checked the RGB cathode voltage at the CRT board? Try adjust the G2 voltage higher and see if you can see any faint picture. If there is a faint picture and the RGB cathode voltages are good then probably you have a weak PC tube.

      HI Girmachew,

Is the 9 volt input is according to the tv spec? I believe it should be higher. A 4 legs voltage regulator ic should have a control pin. The control pin signal is coming from the CPU IC. If no signal means there is no output.

      HI Kishan,

Sorry I do not have the chassis with me. Your tv was blinking when starting so start to check on any dc points that is not stable. If the 36 volt is stable then I don't think that is the cause of the problem.

      HI Kishan,

When it is blinking you can measure to see which test points voltage that is fluctuates (unstable). The test points can be in the power supply output voltages or in the crt board RGB points. If it fluctuates then trace from that circuit line.

          HI Sajeev,

In this case, you may need to check all the corresponding components in the vertical circuit and also the vertical coil.

      HI Fahmi,

Check to see if the G2 (screen voltage) is stable or fluctuating. Distortion could means there is a dry joint in the pincushion circuit.

      HI Sagar,

Try check the dual DC supply voltage to the vertical ic. If the dc supplies are good then direct replace the vertical output IC and retest.

    Hello,
Recently i bought a set top box and an av-rf converter to plug the STB in my CRT tv. Everything is working fine but there is a set of horizontal transparent lines(not parralel) which keeps moving on the screen. What could be the problem and how do i fix it?

      HI Priyam,

Sorry not seen this problem before thus I can't give any advice. Make sure no other non branded power supply is not connected to the same power line because those power supply can cause interference. If the problem still the same I suggest that you refer back to the seller since your CRT TV was working fine.

      Hi Jeevan,
Reddish can be the problem of bad picture tube or red circuitry have problem. I suggest that you compare between the blue/green and the red circuit in term of signal and voltage testing. If there is not much different then probably the tube is the fault. If there is a big different then suspect the red circuitry have bad components.

      HI Daljeet,

Have you checked that the output voltages from the power supply are good and stable? Assuming the voltages are stable, what about the screen voltage (G2)-is screen voltage stable too?

      Hi Kendill,

There could be dry joints, wrong wire connections/connctors, accidentally static killing ICs and etc. I suggest that you take your time to slowly recheck it again. If all checked to be good then you have to start to troubleshoot the TV from the beginning such as is the power supply output voltage good, does the TV have HIGH VOLTAGE and etc.

          HI Kendill,

Check the link below to see how a dry joints look like:
          http://i.fixya.net/uploads/images/b3590ba.gif

I suggest that you check to see if the power supply is producing good output voltages and if yes the TV should have high voltage. If no high voltage, you need to check on the B+ supply voltage and the pulse waveform to the base of the HOT.
By the way I have Whatsapp but not for business use and technical support.

Display no color has nothing to do with the LOT. I suggest that you put back the original LOT and see you get back the original problem or not.

      HI Akin,

If there is no adjustment in the TV then you may need to track from the horizontal IC (or jungle IC) for the horizontal shift pin and troubleshoot from there. Any changes in the component value can cause the image to shift. If the internal Tv has a vr adjustment you can trace from there.

      Hi Pravin,
It can be dry joints or unstable Dc supply. Check the vertical section ic for dry joints and make sure the dc supply from the power supply is good and stable.

Trace from the G2 wire to the mainboard. Probably one of the resistors already gone high ohm.

Hi Yong, I have a 15 years old 21" Sony trinitron tv. Which is working just fine. But only problem is, when I power up the tv. Display comes after almost 10 minutes. I can hear sounds. If I change volume or channel, I can see green indicator in monitor. But no pictures. After 10 minutes, everything is fine. I can see pictures perfectly. Change channel. Everything works smoothly. But if I power off it for any reason. I face this problem again. It doesn't matter, whether I power off by disconnecting it from wall outlet or simply pressing by remote power switch. The problem is always there, once the display is turned off. What should I do?

      Hi Mahmudur,

Try check the heater circuit and make sure it has 6.3 volt. Sometimes a weak picture tube will take longer time to produce the picture.

          Hi Sajid,

If the heater voltage is 6.3 volt and the G2 voltage is 250 to 300vdc and the display still dim this could means the pc tube is already weak and need replacement.

Zig zag can be the problem of bad horizontal circuit (missing horizontal sync), need adjustment or related circuitry problem.

      Hi Sandeep,

If both the transistors have problem then you should replace them. Sometimes when the green cathode gun shorted internally will also produce extra green color but usually comes with flyback lines. If problem still the same then possible the eeprom ic data could be corrupted.
