I suggest that you print out this images of CRT TV/Monitor display problems for reference. To some beginners, they do not know how a pincushion or a keystone distortion problem look like. It is important to know these images so that you will know which section to check when you test the CRT TV/Monitor with a test colour pattern program or generator. Hi Halesh,
Have you compare the signal(voltage and waveform) between the red and the blue/green transistors? Some times a shorted red cathode also can cause reddish with flyback lines.

HI Robbin,
I suggest that you check if there is any dry joints in the CRT board especially on the CRT white socket and transistors.

Usually increasing the voltage might bring faint images. I have a similar problem here and I'm thinking about replacing tda 8843.I assume this might be the source of problem.

Did you replace with the same board? Does it have power? What about high voltage? If no high voltage then there will be no power.

It can be due to low G2 screen voltage, missing heater voltage, no B+ supply, no pulse signal to base of HOT and even weak picture tube.

My C.R.T.T.V does n't start,though it gains current from board.I know it because as soon as the board switch having been on the red bulb being in front of the T.v lights. But for opening the T.V when I use the remote or click the T.V opening switch,there is no reaction in the T.V.It remains same as it was. Why is it?

TV was dead due to high voltage which destroyed the board.A different new reliable board, which I have used in many other tv,s was installed. Got an odd pic first due to open collector res of opt vdo transistor of one of the guns. Now pic has come, but its refusing to get"balanced"(RGB setting is on remote) After shutting dwn clr completely,I have still never got a perfect B/w pic. The best Pic has pink in place of "white" and is got a tired pic look no matter how much I juggle the on screen settings or the screen control on the Eht. The pic is pale lacks strength and "bleeds if pushed a bit more".I don't suspect the kit as I've never had any probs on this account. The picture on the tube using the previous original board was excellent. Something tells me that the PT is the prime suspect... any leads will be deeply appreciated... Thank you.

Hi Prashanth,
If the picture is weak, even with a new original circuit board it would be hard to tuned to the balanced color. If you get a nice OSD menu color then it will not be the picture tube fault.

It sounds that that your problem is not related to picture tube. It is more likely could be a capacitor have exploded.

The working 22 inch CRT TV , In that resistor blown and before blown picture comes within fraction of second goes to OFF.This happens at horizontal section parallel connected resistor and diodes. May I know what may be the issue,how can I resolve this..?

Hi; I'm Daniel from Rivers State of Nigeria I had a burnt fly back transformer replaced; And non of write-ups is displayed,tv is on,blue background is there,but when menu is pressed nothing will be seen;And when program is pressed,I noticed the background moves from blue to blue! (no write-ups,no Image.)

Hi Andre,
In order for the flyback to work and get heater voltage the flyback must receive B+ voltage which you already got and pulse waveform to the base of HOT. And also the flyback should not have problem.

It can be dry joints. Check to see if there is screen voltage (G2) about 250vdc and the heater in the pc tube lights up.

My LG led 24 inch tv, model number 24LB451A-TA(M10) has sound but no picture. I opened the back cover and I got two boards. One the power board and another on the top side horizontally longer board.
I unscrew the small nuts and turned over the board and got a very small component burnt. I couldn’t know what that burnt component is. I couldn’t even get the same tv in the surrounding to compare it. Pls help me to know it if that might be the problem.

If the cap was exploded then you need to check around the circuitry to see if there is other components that has gone bad as well.

Hi Rejith,
It can be caused by corrupted eeprom ic data. You need to look for the service manual how you can enter into the service mode and set it to default. If the problem still the same then the eeprom ic probably the data could have been corrupted.

When I power on JVC 24 inch MODEL NO. AV-14FTG has sound. But, the picture goes off after about one minute. I turned off the power and wait for some minutes and power it on again. The picture appears for about a minute and goes off again. But the sound is ok. What should I try sir?

Hi Sisay,
Have you checked if the output voltages from the power supply slowly rise or not. if it slowly rise it can cause shutdown or power turn off problem.

As you told me, I checked JVC 14 inch MODEL NO. AV-14FTG if the out put voltage from the power supply is rising or not. And I tested the out put voltages on the secondary out put diods (they are 3 out put diods)and got the following valus.at my Dijital Multi Meter set 1000 Dc.
-At Diod 1 = 114 or 115
-At Diod 2 = 022 or 023 and
-At Diod 3 = 011
What else sould i do next sir?

Had i checked those voltages before and known the vales at the out put when the tv was at normal condition, I could have aderstood whether the voltages i have seen now are higher or not. But, those voltages i got now are not rising up continouosly or lowering down continouosly. The are just constant values when i check them four times.

Dear sir,the customer has brought the crt tv phillips,saying that it was working ok but abruptly no display only black screen but there is high voltage due to chaa sound,also the bulb is lightening orange ,i think the heater is not problm,but i get the rgb amplifier with 184vdc and 1.4 or 1.4 vdc to other leg,i have resoldered the whole circuit for this crt philips tv but nothing ,

HI George,
R, G and B amplifier should have about the same voltages. If you got big differences in the RGB voltages, this means something has gone wrong. Have you checked the screen G2 voltage? If yea then what is the voltage?

I 've a problem with 21pt2443 model Philips crt color tv.actuall problem was half picture & ifound a shorted vertical ic & replaced it.but accidentally the picture tube base board has shortened with the heat zink while I was checking the board.areddish color appeared in the screen a tv switch offs.Now tv switch ons but no osd(screen is blank) no sound(thru AV)after a while the voltages dropped in the bas board.Pls give some tips.thank u

It is usually hard to locate the fault when it was accidentally created by us and not by nature that it has its own fault. In your case, probably could be the IC fault since there were so many problems. Only the ICs (jungle IC) or some other ICs that can controls so many functions.

If the pulse comes for one second and gone this means you have to track backward to the IC that producing the pulse. It can be the IC fault or something that has triggered the IC to stop producing the pulse.

Hi Dawit,
In order for the filament to work the flyback has to energize first. For flyback to energize, it needs B+ dc supply voltage and a pulse to the base of HOT.

Yes it can be due to bad flyback, corresponding circuit or even the B+ supply line itself that can't sustain current draw.

I have found that my Ultra slim LG 21FU8VGE having pincushion distortion problem. I would say one more thing that I have faced the same problem before and I have changed a pf 22n 630V St horizontal section, which was connected ground to snubber capacitor 18n 2kV. The same was connected with horizontal output collector pin. After changing the said pf my TV found in order. After running 2 days one linear coil became damage which was connected to the 26V output pin of flyback transformer. After replacing the linear coil I have watched my television for few days. Now I am again facing the same pincushion problem (screen full but pincushion problem). So kindly suggest me how to repair my LG TV???

Hi Joy,
You need to open the tv up and find out the burning smell. It can be arcing by the flyback that produced the smell.

Hi Wisty,
No picture can be caused by lots of factor. Is your TV has high voltage? If no high voltage then you need to check the B+ supply to flyback and a pulse signal to the base of HOT. If have high voltage then check the G2 scree voltage and make sure the heater in the tube is lighted up.

Hello, my 14" crt sharp TV (P69 14-inch) has gradually flipped the display upside down. It began folding back from the bottom upwards merely a month ago. I can't figure out what the problem could be as I have little experience in TV repairs.

Hi, my 21 inch Sony CRT TV the video just went blank while watching, OSD and sound is perfectly ok. I can see and operate all the menu but no video. I tried different cables and inputs and still the same problem.
B+ and Video board voltage (200V) is ok. Can u give me a clue where I should start troubleshooting

Weak or bad pc tube can cause blank screen. I do not know what kind of sound it has emitted. Without hands on assessment and PC tube checker on that tube I can't confirm if the picture tube is at fault or not.
