No Audio Signal Dreambox DM800HDse Sat Receiver Fixed
Every week – 24/7- my good old trusted DM800HD SE Dreambox satellite receiver waits for me to help me watch and record TV programs.
But recently on one of those days while watching tv on my Samsung television my Dreambox only showed video without any audio. First I thought that I maybe had activated the Mute function on my remote by accident. That was not the case. And because I wanted to watch and record (often already pre-programmed with its EPG timer) a program soon after that evening I was not amused.
Above photo showed my now partly defect receiver after the box was opened and the mainboard for inspection was extracted. (board marking HIGO24 Rev:D11, with right above it the white special Japhar SIM card inserted working with OpenPli8.1star installed).
Luckily I had an almost identical DM800HD SE Dreambox sat receiver that I previously used with a second 2 head satellite dish to watch channels from other satellites which I only had to adjust for receiving when connected to my first satellite dish. Because my first dish used 4 separate LNB heads and my second receiver previously only was used with 2 LNB’s on other satellites, I only had to adjust that second receiver for receiving 4 satellites. And after a full satellite channel scan on all 4 heads my tv program and evening was saved for the moment.
Of course now I wanted to know if my receiver with failing audio output could be fixed. And I started to inspect all chip markings for clues that may relate to the audio problem. The top side of the board mainly showed several integrated circuits for power management. So I started to inspect the solder side of the board and noticed that a small 4558 sop8 smd chip was connected to the audio output pins of the scart bus. Scartpins 1 and 3 were respectively audio right and left out but it here obviously no longer worked. Next picture shows the complete scart pinout. This U400 RC4558 dual opamp amplifier chip clearly had to be replaced to fix the audio output problem.
Above photo shows the scart solderside with the mentioned U400 smd opamp stereo amplifier chip.
Since I only had a few standard DIP 4558 opamps I immediately ordered 10 of those dual opamps on eBay on 2 october 2025. And today on 16 october they already arrived with speedpak expedition.
Next photo shows the defect 4558 dual opamp again on a larger area that shows all components around the scart connector.
Previous 2 photos showed in closeup first the defect U400 chip with marking JRC, followed by its new eBay replacement dual opamp chip with marking RC4558 TI3AM OA571.
Right after U400 was replaced my Dreambox DM800HD se works perfectly again! Searching on Google for no-audio-output-on-Dreambox-DM800HD previously gave no useful information.
Servicemanuals for these great working Dreambox receivers sadly still do not exist, but the website from Johnny B. on https://jb8a8f8.com/ gives a lot information for Dreambox owners that may be of great help. The site shows a lot of interesting technical information that no doubt was gathered through experimental reverse engineering. And below screencopy shows more information on the audio output circuit in a DM800HD (se) satellite receiver.
I never would have expected that this small RC4558 sop8 chip suddenly would fail. But it did and replacing it completely fixed my previously audioless video/television programs.

Failure of this IC is quite common and I have faced this in a few sets handled by me. Many thanks for sharing such a valuable article packed with technical data and guidance with references. Hat's off!

Thanks Parasuraman, didn't know that these small RC4558 dual-opamps failed so easily.
Sadly no tv for me now for at least the next 3 weeks. Because they are renovating our balconies to make everything waterproof again. And in the process a large placed 3-story high scaffolding now has pushed my satellite dish out of its correct position. So I have no other option then to wait until everything is done here.
They fist said that everything would go without any disruption. So I'm not at all amused!

Albert,
How you confirmed about Op-amp failure?

The RC4558 chip was the only amplifier chip between the Scart audio output pins and the dreambox mainboard circuit. So it had to be defect. Measuring on the still good audio amplifier chip in my second fine working DM800HDse Dreambox confirmed this.
And when checked in a opamp tester it no doubt will show that the old dual opamp was bad.

Question to all! I also have a cheap DVB-T2 HD-6800 receiver. DVB-T2 reception works perfectly on all H265 compressedtv channels but the online Youtube channels and other online channels like Meecast fail completely because the necessary firmware upgrade needed to solve the problem was never given. Seller Aliexpress nor now older internet downloadlinks no longer give that about 4.1MB firmware upgrade file. And they never helped to solve the simple easy fixable issue. But the upgrade file was available about 2 years ago on Indonesian and other Youtube videos. Is there anyone who can help me to fix this annoying hardware problem on Jestine's Blog?
