Restored Another Antique National RX-C37 Tape Recorder
This set belonged to a widow, who requested me to restore it so that she could play some old cassettes in which recordings were done many years back. She wanted to copy these to CDs or USBs. I picked it up from her home on my return from hospital, many months back. Though I had opened the set, cleaned it thoroughly and tried to run the tape after changing the belts, the running was erratic.
I even changed the pinch roller as it had developed cracks. Looked like the problem was in the motor, as I had lubricated the mechanism also well and even applied a drop of oil in the motor. I even opened the motor with an idea of fixing it:
I had no stock of 9V CCW motor with me and I had to fetch it from my techie friends. But the one who had could be located only after several attempts, by which time, months passed.
Finally, my techie friend sent me the motors (all that was remaining with him, which had one new one too!). I fixed the new motor and tried. The set worked very well!
The mission got accomplished, though after a long wait!
All is well that ends up well and does not end us up in the well! (LOL) Satisfaction was only glad to jump into its collection bag!

I guess that these older motors are still pre-neodymium manufactured less stronger permanent magnets?

Yah! The defect takes place in its contacts as it gets worn out after a long use. There is no way of repairing it, though rarely possible, which I have done before. Many thanks for your comments!
