Laptop Intermittent Battery Charging Fixed
I have got one laptop with intermittent battery charging problem. The customer said while he was operating laptop suddenly the brightness of laptop screen turned dim and at the same time the battery stop charging.
Just to confirm the problem I connected the laptop for inspection and I observed while moving power adapter, the above symptom does happened. So this could be problem either with adapter or with laptop DC socket. Further test I concluded that it was the power adapter problem. By wiggling the power adapter cable I could know at which part of the cable was broken internally. The problem was near to the output dc jack. I then cut open the insulation rubber and found that the internal DC wire had a small cut causing it to touch on the outer ground wire.
Since I do not have the spare DC output jack with me, I had to try repair the broken cable. The things that you need are:
- Sharp blade
- Heat shrink tube different sizes.
- Cigarette lighter
- And of course soldering material.
First of all cut the cable to required length.
Now final step:
With this final touch up your device is ready to work. After the process I have plugged the adapter to the laptop and it starts working without problem.

Couldn't you just have insulated the wire from the ground with some insulating tape?

Excellent repair Yogesh. I find this is not an uncommon problem and keep a small supply of the two most popular sizes of replaceable plugs in stock, obtained very cheaply from a supplier in China. However, I note eBay India has them, offered for example by rptechindia at 10 for Rp.140. Do an eBay search for power jack plug.
