Although this repair is about a in year 2018 already before repaired power adapter it is not a bad power adapter at all!

That is mainly because I use this 12V 3A adapter almost 24/7 every week without any issues on my connected Dreambox 800HD satellite receiver. Until today when my receiver refused to show any tv channels. Below the label of this now again defect adapter.

Previously about 5 years ago it was the 22uF 400V primary capacitor that needed to be replaced.

This time however it was a small bulged 470uF 16V capacitor on the secondary side.

As was visible in previous photo. Below photo shows the solder side of this trusted and easily fixable 12V 3A power supply.

After replacing the bulged 470uF 16V capacitor on the secondary circuit side of this adapter my satellite receiver was operational again.

And the board was glued back into the inside case with some hot glue to make sure it will also survive any accidental drop to the floor.

This adapter will no doubt serve me again for many more hours like it already has done in the many previous years!

You brought back memories. I used to own a dreambox a long time ago. Many great years of FTA testing. These Power supplies have always been hit or miss with me. They are usually jacked too tightly for me to do any testing or repair. Glad to see you were able to get this one going.

I have a few old DM800 SE receivers that I upgraded with new Japhar SIM cards. This way they are able to run on newer OpenPli firmware.
And the old hardware this way still can be used without too many problems at present days. I haven't needed a new version for a long time now! And I use OpenPli v8.1star.
The only problem may arise when a newer bigger OpenPli FW version needs more memory than the used Dreambox does provide. More info about present versions and Japhar Sim cards can be found here => http://www.ourdreambox.com/

I tend to replace all the main capacitors to mitigate the chance of needing to repair again.

You can but you still may have to replace those then too in time! Ideal capacitors do not exist so why bother to replace them when they are not bad yet?

You may be right although this adapter -now fixed for the second time- was easily repaired the first time too!
