This Pigeon DVD Player Model DVD-Clear was brought to me without its remote control (misplaced or lost) with the complaint that it was dead. As usual, the first job is to open and clean. Opening this is a bit tricky, the screws are underneath and it has clip locks all-around. We need to remove the screws, which are easy, but carefully, pry open the top cover, because each screw holder gets locked with its other side on the top cover.

Noticed that two Electrolytic capacitors were bulgy in the power supply section. So replaced it along with all other capacitors on that board and also retouched all solder joints. After cleaning the main board, patched up dry solder joints.

The power came on, but no disks were playing, even though it detected the disk and started rotating. I cleaned the lens. But the fault continued. So, I decided to replace the eye unit.

Before that I also tried after replacing the strip wire, but in vain. I got a replacement eye unit as shown below:

After replacing the eye unit, it worked very well. I tried playing different formats including MP3, and it played very well.

Good thing that this time you only replaced the bulgy e-caps and a few other capacitors on the power supply board Parasuraman. Replacing also the 42+ other e-caps on the amplifier board would have been a bit too much to handle and expensive. But knowing you I am sure you easily would have done it if it was necessary. (LOL).

All the electrolytic capacitors were checked with ESR meter and found to be within the limits. So, did not mind its sick look and contained my temptation for all round attack, especially because it is a double sided PCB!

Good work, Parasuraman. I have been impressed with the number of el-caps on the board. Not so normal in equipment. Why did not changed all of them? Did you check them?
