sony led tv 32 inch repair

This 32″ Sony LED TV came in for repair with the complaint of stand by power problem and it blinked 6 times. I checked from the Sony error code the meaning of blinking 6 times means and it could be problem in the LED Backlight (weak LED backlight), LED Driver or Display fault. From experience, I had solved this kind of problem before and must replace with three Sony LED strips.

The problem now I do not have such strips. What I had was the LED strip from LG and Singer and they were not match with the Sony LED strips.

how to modify led tv sony

Since I do not have the original Sony LED Strip, I have decided to ground the LED drive supply IC protection pin.

Below is the IC part number BD9397EFV datasheet and you can click on the photo to view the datasheet:

Just connect a 10 K Ohm resistor between pin 31 (CP) and ground by following the diagram below:

HOW TO FIX SONY LED TV

After the modification and powered On, the display appeared and it seems to have solved the 6 times power blinking issue in this SONY TV.

HOW TO FIX AND REPAIR SONY LED TV

Conclusion- The above simple modification by adding just a resistor disabled the protection circuit in the IC. What I want to tell you is that, this TV has no longer protection against faulty LED backlight and etc. It is meant to confirm that the actual fault was with the issue of backlight itself only and no other circuit problem. Once I got the new Sony LED strips, I will fix in the original strip and will remove the resistor and I can confirm that with the original Sony LED strip, the TV will run again normally. Have a good day and will see you again in the next article.

Quick and interesting repair. However Sony is no longer my brand of consumer-electronics since they made and sold bad products in the past.

Good informative article, though I have handled such issues before. As mentioned by you, it is not at all advisable to disable protection circuits except for trouble shooting.

Good job, Suranga. Did you check to see if you just had a bad solder joint on one or more of the LED's on the strip, or a bad strip coupler? I have repaired my TV backlight problem twice and never had to buy a new strip.

Only Twice Robert? ....Wait for it... (Like the guy in "How I married your mother often says"...LOL). I'm only joking Robert!
But experience sadly tells us it may happen again. It is almost a mathematical certainty.

Not this time, Albert. I removed all of the LED strip couplers and soldered in tinned copper wire. It has been playing great!

    Good Job!Suranga,

Have you tried to repair the LED strip??..... some time this is the only option because of unavailability of spare parts.

My question also, Yogesh. But it is my First option mainly because it is cheaper and quicker to reflow the LED's or throw away the coupler and hardwire the LED strips.
