This time I wanted to share with you this “Lessons Learned”. I repaired a diode laser but soon it came back due the customer is complaining housing is now open…

Let me try to explain the problem- Plastic housings close by the action of the screw which keeps both pieces tight.

But sometimes the plastic broke and screw could not make his function

secret to fix plastic housing problem

Even adding glue to plastic it will sooner or later broke again. This was the case because I glued with super glue cyanoacrylate and it worked only for weeks…

By the way, I learned from my wife a good trick: cyanoacrylate + baking soda (powder) or flour can make a stronger joint! Nevertheless, it did not work for the plastic housing. This time I do something different.

I bought larger bolts and glued a hose in order to have a stronger contact area and the result:

The cyanoacrylate + baking soda trick is a good one. Sadly I never bake so I in the past used some other glue which I mixed with the cyanoacrylate glue (superglue). That also made a stronger and faster hardening material. And it helps in times when the mostly hard plastics are not porous enough to attach to. And if you have old rather expensive silver glue that hardened out you still can reactivate the glue by adding some nail polish remover or acetone to it and stir both.

This is a great trick to help cyanoacrilate (super glue) to cure, because this glue NEEDS something to stick on, just as concrete needs stones mixed to it, to be more rugged. Anyway I still haven't found a good solution to glue things together when bigger areas of the encasing is damaged.

thanks for the tips!I discovered a glue tip that I have founf very useful.I mix a corn starch and a clear pure silicon together .1/2 to 1/2 of each. This will form a very strong mold or form to hold your screw in to the case, plus bond the plastic too.
