Bought A New Keyboard

By on August 1, 2010

I just came back from shopping complex with family and bought a new keyboard. The brand of the keyboard is Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. The reason i buy this keyboard is because i have wrist pain on my right hand for almost two weeks already. This is most probably i use the normal design of keyboard that have the wrong wrist posture for a long period of time. After some research i found that i might have the Carpal Tunnel Symptom caused by long hour of using the normal keyboard. I hope the pain will go away after using the new keyboard.

I have the same exact keyboard. I used it with my computer when I was doing a lot of video editing at the tv station I was working in. I was spending a lot of hours editing and my wrist was hurting bad but when the new one, the pain is way less but when I stopped using the computer that much, the pain totally went away..good luck.

I also developed lots of pain in my wrist and hand after years of keyboard and mouse use. I found after spending lots of money on special mice and keyboards that using a track-pad pretty much ended the pain. Nothing else worked in my case. If you use a regular mouse and still find that the pain continues, give a track pad a try and see if that helps.

    Hi Waleed,

You are right when i stop using the computer there will be less pain. I am like you spending lots of time in front of computer-to support my clients. Three weeks time from now i will be going for another fishing trip to take some break.

the problem is even with the best keyboards, if you use it wrong, like when bending your wrist down you type, you will still get the pain. there are regulations about using keyborads, usually the insturction manual comes with the keyboard...I find these very helpful too and it helped to reduce pain..

Jestine, better take preventive measures like resting every 2 hours and doing arm, neck and back stretch exercises. I have videos of 8 QiGong whole-body stretch exercises presented by Professor Qu Li Min of University of Peking. It takes only 10 minutes daily and it works wonders to relief tension. I will upload the videos. Check your email next couple of days for the links and instruction.

Using a chair with adjustable height and arm rests also helps fighting fatigue and keeping a good sitting posture. I have a Herman Miller Aeron chair. Now copies are available for under $200.

    Hi Sam,
Thanks for the information. In fact i did some rest after sitting for too long-that's where my small rc helicopter come for rescue. Somehow i believe is the keyboard design because after few days of using the new keyboard, my wrist now is getting better. I don't need to bend my wrist for typing anymore. This keyboard have a cushion to support your wrist while typing.
