A customer and good friend of mine brought this laptop for repair. He wants it to be repaired as soon as possible since it belonged to his older daughter who was in college and had all the school files on the hard drive.

The charging port inside the laptop was broken and needed a replacement

and as seen in the photo even the outside plastic is also broken so I have to be careful taking this laptop apart.

I checked the external charging plug was also bad and needed replacement but when I checked the output voltage, it was present but I was going to replace it anyways.

I dismantled the laptop so I can find out what kind of charging port I am dealing with here so I can make an order of it and the charging cable as well.

I have found the charging port and the charging cable in a local store here and I was able to get it the same day which made the customer very happy.

In the previous photo shows the replacement and I apologize for not showing a photo before that.

Usually I cut the power supply open and I replace the whole cable but this customer did not want that so I had to cut the output cable off and splice the new cable on. It was not the best thing to look at but it was up and running.

I did a full check up on the laptop inside which included cleaning up of the board (especially the cooking vent), checking for bad soldering joints and most important adding a new thermal paste to the main IC for better cooling.

Finally, the laptop was ready and I called the customer for pick up. The daughter who owes this laptop came with her father to make sure everything was the way it should be and she was happy with outcome.

Many customers think that when the power cable and the charging port are changed in any laptop or any device that has a hard drive they would automatically lose the data on that hard drive and I am assuming that is why the daughter came with her father to pick up the laptop.

Anyway, the job was done; the customer was happy and to that I could say

Mission Accomplished.

Good job! School education without computers and laptops is unthinkable of these days. Long gone those days when we only were carrying a calculator with notebook and pencil.
The cheaper Chrome notebooks are these days often allowed in class since the high end models are also able to run Windows and Microsoft office.

Good job Waleed. Did you know... new trend or hack is to replace these charging ports (once they are on your bench for repairs) with a ubiquitous USB-C port? A worth while upgrade and possibly a value added service you may offer your customers. I have Chromebook on my bench that I will try to upgrade to usb-c when I have the chance. While it won't prevent carelessness or futuer cord yanks its solves the bulky and specialized charger block problem. Now to solve the clumsiness problem I would recommend using a MagSafe adapter (magnetic charging port popularized by apple computers a few years ago). Best Regards
