By Jestine Yong on November 14, 2010
Beh have completed building the Dick Smith Flyback Tester. The PCB board was beautifully made. He powered it with an external power supply and used a brighter LEDs as seen from the photos below. Well done Beh!

DEAR JESTINE
but also i have this question?
in this diagram 1 cap is installed with 2.2 microfarad . if this is electrolyte? need to show the polarities but does not give any info
if you can tell me about this. i tried to contact with designer of the diagram but no answer so far

beh
how did you made a clean or better circuit design of this fbt circuit. did you use ironing the design in the pcb.thanks

Hi beh,
Since it does not show the polarity then i believe it is a non polar cap.

DEAR ZED
thank you so much of your fet tester diagram is really easy to make this one and if you said is working good i will switch to this one
about PCB i have to tell you this is made by assistance of one of my friend and program of the computer that changes your simple diagram
to a PCB printable diagram and after that is easy i do not know the name of program but if you want i have one extra unused pcb one and i can send you
also i may ask Mr Yong to give you my e mail address
i have to talk to you

Thanks for the information of the software. My email ad is zed7344@yahoo.com or zed4473@gmail.com. I forgot to tell you and sir jestine that i've tried assembling that fet diagram that you refer a year ago and its not working. so i look for another diagram and i found what i refer to you and it's really working. i have post the picture in my blog.

HI ZED
thank you so much of your constructive info. as you told the diagram
i was working on that is not working i try several time, but your diagram is much better actually i am finished this one and in much
simpler way. i do not use wire and clipper i just put two 8 pin socket
for testing the fets and as holder during the test period and for pcb board i us a project board . also for
switch i want to use small key pin fit with hole of the board and not wiring them all and just solder the switch as soon as
the tester complete i will send you a picture to see what i have done
also i sent you e mail i will be very thankful if you answer me
best regards

I have been reading about the repair tips coming from your websites.
Since then i have found them very very useful tips concerning repair of equipment and troubleshooting methods.
I would like to get a circuit diagram for the lopt/flyback transformer as it is one of the most difficult part to troubleshoot.
Bye

HI Randy,
It depends on the transformer winding. Some will have 4 LED while to some it can have 8 LED light up.

hi jestine,
just want to ask about the flyback tester of mr. dick smith... will this flyback tester be more accurate if i use a precision resistor of 1% tolerance than a 5% regular resistor? thanks
admin
August 15, 2011 at 5:05 am
HI Lito,
Good question- using 1% on any test circuit will give you a better result. Since this tester result is from the LEDS and not in digital readout (like the digital multimeter) thus is is not necessary to use the 1% resistors.

HI Tipu,
You need to make your own PCB.
