An Xbox S With Overheating Issue Repaired and Maintained
A customer called me about an Xbox S that is having overheating issues. The customer said it is an old device but right now the repair is all he can afford. The device was a gift from his brother long time ago and right now this issue needs some tender loving care treatment.
I never opened an Xbox before so I went online and find a way to take it
apart right away I could see dirt and dust floating on the service.
It is dirty inside out and I wonder how bad it is on the inside because the more I take parts out I find more dirt and dust.
Finally I got the surface and I could see a big mess and this explains the overheating and shutting down issues.
If you look closely you would see the modification done on this device. The yellow board is for allowing the user to down load copy games directly to the hard drive.
Usually Xbox and Play stations allows you to play only original games but with this modification it allows to play copied games directly from the hard drive once it was installed there.
I took the heat sink off and I could see dry thermal paste there so it is time now to do the cleaning and hope for the best.
Clean board and main chip ready to receive fresh thermal paste on.
That is the heat sink clean and ready to be installed over the main chip after the fresh thermal paste will be added.
Fan dusted and cleaned and it was ready to be connected to the main board for cooling while the device is on.
That is the final cleaning and all the parts are back to where they belong. I put the cover back on and tested it in my shop with the customer and he was pleased with the outcome.
The customer’s son was happy with the device that he called me on the phone to tell me how happy he was with the outcome and he appreciated all the hard work I have done to achieve this. I wish all the customers like that…
Mission Accomplished.

Thanks for sharing this XBOX-S repair that I also never had opened or seen before. I only have several of the older Microsoft consoles that still work fine.
Your successful cleaning result gives me confidence that it will easily be possible to revive these newer machines whenever I see one.

Cleaning / Blowing Dust is looking easiest job!But it is very Dangerous for once health & can cause respiratory system damage & lead to allergy in breathing problem in long term.
just for safety advice to every one please perform dust cleaning in some open place & use proper mask. I personally use water shower using shampoo to clean the PC motherboard without blowing the Dust and after words blow a hot air for drying it.i always remove active components like Battery & metal parts before washing it with shampoo water, i think this is good way to keep away dust wherever possible.
anyway Good Job! waleed

Yogesh: thanks for your concern about my health, I really appreciate it very much. It was cleaned and dusted in a safe way and came out beautifully. I always used shampoo and water to clean out dust and then dry it and let it sit in the heat of the sun till it is dry and nice. Have a blessed day.

Good refurbishment of this great console. We should take note of our devices which may need fans cleaned and thermal paste refreshed.
I recently did the same to an 11 year old macbook air. Fresh thermal paste and cleaning of the fan+heatsink. Working like new now.
