A Blue Tooth Speaker With Broken Charging Port Replaced. Model ANKER
An American customer and a friend of mine brought many things for repair; one of these broken items was this blue tooth speaker with charging port broken and needed a replacement.
It seems like a good quality speaker because it was heavy and it sounded good when played few songs on it.
Yes I could see the damage but I was hoping to have the same exact charging port otherwise I have to do some modifications to it.
Let the repair begins.
There are some screws beneath this rubber pads and that is according to the search I made online for such speakers.
And sure it was so took the screws off to expose what beneath this plastic thing.
Step by step I was getting closer to the charging port but not yet.
One screw holding the printed board and I were able to the lift it out exposing more screws to take out.
Lots of sockets to remember so make sure to take photos of and use them later on to put everything back where they belong.
Yes more screws to come off and the dismantling continue to get deeper into this thing.
Finally I got the charging port after I took another six screws holding this plastic piece.
Sad to say I do not have this kind of charging port because it is a little bit higher than the usual ones that I have in the shop.
The charging port was already loose inside but I could not re solder it back because the pins were all broken.
So happy to see that all traces are accounted for otherwise I would have to connect wires to restore them and I am not in the mood for that.
That is the only charging port I have in the shop that fits but it is lower than the original one but I have a solution to this issue.
I checked with the customer about a tiny modification before I did anything and I got the ok.
I had to carve around the charging port and make it fit inside and I think it was better than factory.
Sometime we have to think outside the box to make things work and to that I could say
Mission Accomplished.

Never understood why they design very expensive smartphones and computers with these very weak - non industrial quality - breakable micro and mini usb ports. Ports that are very breakable and sensitive to dirt and moisture too with those tiny usb pins inside the chassis ports! Suchs ports are only sturdy and trustworthy when they would have a bigger screwable metal chassis on the plug outside like vga ports and scart ports have. New usb cables already are made for 6 Amp and higher for faster charging which is the more reason for using better and stronger connectors.

Albert: I share your concern about such design and still I have no Idea why they made it this way. The device on the inside was built with high quality material and it took me a while to take it apart but the charging port was messed up really bad on the inside. Have a blessed day

By having these kind of poor quality usb charging port, is a gateway for us to get busy anď make money while factories see it as a way of cost effectiveness. Thanks for sharing.

Tito: thanks man. they are not hard to find but at that time I did not have it in the shop. They are easily found on the net but it takes about 2 weeks or more to get it but the customer did not want to wait. have a blessed day
