Installing Astro Satellite Dish

By on January 6, 2011

Two weeks ago i have engaged a friend to install TV antennas for me and today there was another guy from ASTRO (direct broadcast satellite (DBS) pay television) came to my house to fix the ASTRO Beyond satellite dish. Astro Beyond dish is bigger than the normal Astro dish. One has to pay RM20.00 extra to get the HD movie quality. Before he adjusted the dish to get the best reception, he turned on an equipment and look at the signal strength. The equipment also produce high pitch beeping sound if there is a very good  reception. The name of the test gear was Horizon Digital Satellite Meter and it was provided by the Astro company. The cost of the meter is RM3000.00. For Astro Beyond, he have to select Measat 3a to test and for normal Astro Channels he have to select Measat 3 only. You can click here to learn more about Measat.

He told me that during the early days, one could earn a lot just by fixing satellite dish but now since many houses already have one thus  the earning had dropped. Below are the photos of the Astro Installer and the meter:

we use the same kind of machine..not the same brand name but it does the same thing but instead, it shows the strength of the signal by graf which makes it easy to see how strong the signal is. it cost a lot of money but it is worth having...

    Hi Jestine,
You are getting Astro fixed and thanks for sending us the information. Well one friend of mine show me a China build TV pendrive. Just put in CPU and then you can watch multiple channels from china TV stations and others. Also can view TV dramas and Cinema shows, when new show it will download itself. Says it's RM180.00 , maybe in China is cheaper. have you seen this device? thanks

    Hi Jestine

TV PenDrive is an USB tuner that lets you use your computer as TV and digital media center. Digital ATSC high definition USB tuners cost about US$20. Analog NTSC/PAL versions are under US$10 or even free since there are only a handful analog broadcast stations remaining in US.

    Home>Settings>Installation Settings>PIN “0000″>Satellite Settings>OK>OK

you just follow the instruction above & select entry point # 1,then you will get your signal strength, signal quality & signal level(0-255).

    Hi Jestine,

Recently read your blog, good content. Do you have contacts for any good Astro installer? I have a new place where I want to re-wire Astro Beyond PVR to multiple points. Would like to find a good installer that can give high quality work.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Jestine
I live in a condo where centralised SMATV installed. Since i just renovated ths hse, I don want any exposed cable in the hse. I manage to connect a cable frm the sat dish to my SMATV point, thus no exposed cable in the hse (cable from SMATV room to my hse is all concealed). BUt then I was thinking to install astro pvr package & i was told it required 2 cable for the decod & pvr unit. My question is
    1. Since i don want any exposed cable for the PVR, can I use the existing concealed cable and then seperate the cable using 1 way tap 40-1250MHz 12dB?
2.I heard about stacker/destacker for the above purpose, How much are the retail price?
3.Do u hav any other idea that can solve my prob?

Ur kind reply are very much apprecated

      Hi Luriaze,

Have you check the cabling? In your case, you really need the help from any Astro fixing guy that have the tester to scan for the signal or to fix the ASTRO BEYOND problem.
