Two Simple Jobs On LED TV Servicing – SAMSUNG UA43N5005AK & IMPEX-GRANDE 32 SMART
Case (1) Samsung : I request you all to see the following link, where I have reported about solving milky display problem:
https://jestineyong.com/milky-display-necessitated-panel-replacement-in-samsung-led-tv-ua43n5005ak/
The panel replacement was done in February, 2026. The customer called on me on 15 th July, 2026 to inform that there was some dark patch on the TV and he wanted me to go to his home and check it up. I went there on 16th July morning assuming that there could be some backlight issues. A look at the TV when switched on gave me a shock, reason for which you can deduce yourself from the following pictures:
While delivering the TV, I had vehemently mentioned that panel is a very brittle glass and no pressure should be applied on it in any way. They were also very careful. But the life drama had a different plan. The painters, who did the internal painting, moved away many things including this TV. None told them they should handle the TV carefully, nor did they themselves have any common sense.
Many things were lying on a cot and this TV was kept face down on it and further load was kept on the TV. None realized the grave mistake done. After the painting was over, when the TV was moved back to its place and switched on, this is what they found. They thought it was some problem that could be solved and that is how I was called. When I told them that the panel was broken and questioned about the reasons, they told this story, which corroborated with the finding. Anyhow, they agreed for yet another panel replacement and paid me the full money in advance. I called up my friend once again and asked him to give me a date for going over there. Luckily, since it was only a panel replacement, he wanted me to go to him next day afternoon. I went there after finishing my hospital duty and got the panel replaced. I allowed the TV to run for some time after he fixed the frames and covers. Then called up the customer to check their availability in their home and went there and fixed the TV back.

Connected the inputs and played the video and waited for a few minutes. I also peeled off the protection film stuck on the panel informing the customer that it should be removed to enable the glass dissipating the heat generated, lest it should affect its life. My techiefriend game a concession on the charges on compassionate ground, which I passed on to the customer by making a refund to that extent. Customer was very happy! Here is the picture of the TV working, which I took at my techiefriend’s place:
Case (2) Impex : This TV was brought to me by one of my old customers stating that the TV was lying unused for quite some time and there was no display when switched on. I switched on the TV and gently tapped the panel and found out that the backlight was on, but there was no display.
I sent the photo of the CKV lines on both sides of the single COF and my techie friend marked it and asked me to tell him what was the resistance shown between one CKV line to another. It was showing 470 Ohms, which was a clear indication of direct short. It was already evident from the fact that except the panel voltage of 12 and 3.3V, VGL-VGH-Vone (AVDD) were missing. Let us have a look at the CKV lines:
Kindly count from the downward arrow in the second picture, 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 (upto the upward arrow) You will notice one single track followed by a two double tracks and again followed by a single track. I conducted the resistance check between 2 and 4 which was found dead short. So, I scraped the bottom side of 4 and cut its track to the panel. Still the short was there. So I rejoined it and did the same on the left side of the COF (yellow round mark), as these are parallelly connected to go into the panel from both sides. Then the short vanished. So scraped all the other three tracks. Let us have a look of the rejoining done and the scraping done:
Then the display came on. (The point where I rejoined was cleaned thoroughly to remove the minute drops of lead)
The TV was tested in this condition for a few hours before fixing the back cover. The customer was cautioned about every possibility of display failure as such patch works would not last long. He came home next day morning along with his mom, after their return from a temple visit. Though she took the charges originally indicated and held it up for me, I declined to accept it and told them to check for a week and then only pay me a very, very nominal fee to take care of my expenses for the tools and lights used. I also told her that she was lucky to have such a son and I really love him and that’s why I was waving the charges to collect only a small amount. She was extremely happy to listen to it!
Double missions accomplished in quick succession that got attracted to the collection bag apart from the side-effect of happiness derived from the timely remarks made to his mom! We gain in multiples from such gestures and increase our credibility!

Your service to the community like your repairs for the hospital are admirable and set an example to all engineers!
Sadly these tv repairs are still way too complex and risky for my taste!

Many thanks for your comments, dear Albert! May a day come, when you will attack the problems on TVs and bring them back to working conditions like you have done on many, much more complicated devices! Wish you a chance soon!

Good repair work as usual Mr. Parasuraman. I admire the easy way you find replacement panels in your country Sir, in our locality it is not easy to get them. Instead we dump them and use them as spares. It's painful when you know that it can be easily repaired if spares are readily available. All in all, thanks for the articles

It is sad that you do not have panels available in your country. Many TVs would have gone to dustbin adding up E-waste! Many thanks for your comments!

Good Job! Sir,
The customer had to get their screen replaced twice for no good reason; we also feel bad when a customer’s device breaks down again within a short period.

Yes, it really pained me too. We generally feel bad whenever some customer has to lose money and we always take care as though it is ours. Many thanks for your comments, dear Yogesh Bai!
