A Laminator Machine Repaired. Model: LP330C

By on July 20, 2013

A laminator machine was brought to my shop by a customer. The moment he plugged it in and pushes the power button it causes an electrical short in the office.

I powered up the machine and the red light came on. Usually, it takes about three minutes for the green light to come on. That is when the machine is ready to do the lamination. The red power came on and I waited for the green light to come on but it did not. That is an enough reason for me to open the machine and see what was wrong with it.

The moment I took the cover off I saw these two sensors at the side of the machine. One of these sensors cables was loose causing the machine not to give the green ready light in this laminator.

The moment I plugged in the loose sensor, I powered up the machine again and in two minutes, the green light came on indicating a ready to laminate machine.

That put a smile on my face, but unfortunately, that smile did not last long because the machine caused an electrical short in my work shop. It was not a serious electrical short because the earth leakage switch did not disconnect, only the electrical switch that was connected to the outlet that connects to the laminator was disconnected.  The only thing I could think of; because it is a laminator and it depends on heat to do the job, the PC board or other parts in this machine that could be wet.   I checked the board but it was dry and nice.

I checked the every part of this machine, inside out and I could not find anything wrong with it. Then, I got an idea; I asked myself, why the sensor cable was off when I first opened the machine? I guess someone was trying to fix it and could not, so he either forgot to the put the sensor back or the sensor was the cause of the problem in this machine.

I took the sensor out and checked it out. There was a tiny diode at the top of it and when checked it with a multi meter, it was shorted out. The moment I replaced that diode, put the machine back together, and powered it up and it worked nicely.

I have read your article about the laminator machine you repaired.I have also received this kind of machine a week ago with the same problem. I found broken sensor holder and i fixed it but my question is that what is the value of the diode used as a sensor, because when i test it with an ohm meter it gives a high resistance reading that's why i thought this is not an ordinary diode. What kind of diode you used?

this diode on the sensor, I could not find it in the stores. I had antoher broken laminator so I took the whole sensor and replaced the old one and it worked nicely.

This article shows that no matter how huge the symptoms are it can be caused by
tiny couses. and we should not give up easily.

I think your heat sensor has a problem or it has a gap with the roller.
