A Food Processer Repaired
A friend of mine called me on the phone and asked if I repair kitchen appliances? I usually do not do this kind of repair but I was willing to help my friend by taking a look at it. It was a food processer and it was completely dead. I know one thing about these machines; they have a safety feature build in. That means, if the cover is not completely shut, the machine would not work. Unfortunately, that was not the case in this problem.
I took the cover off and I could see the printed board there. It was not clean and I could see some food left over inside the machine. After cleaning the machine on the inside, I started to take a close look inside this machine and found out that this machine has three speeds built in. I took the main electrical wires that go to the motor and powered it up with 220 volts; the motor ran nicely indicating a good working motor.
My thoughts were focusing on the safety features of this machine but this time from inside the machine. When the cover is completely shut, something has to tell the machine that all is well, and to start working but something was wrong. The cover was shut but the signal was not understood simply because one of the safety features was broken.
There was a signal cable that has two wires inside of it. At the end of this cable there was a magnet. When the cover shuts down completely, the magnet, short the two wires together causing the power to shift to the next step. The piece was broken, therefore no short and at the end, no power.
I replaced the broken piece with a good working one. Powered up the machine and the motor started to spin. I lubricated the machine, the motor and it parts with machine oil caused the sound to become less noisy.
Called my friend and he came and picked the machine. He was happy that it was brought back to life. He was actually shocked it is working again because it was an old machine. It took me about an hour to fix it and it was worth it because now, I have a new experience in kitchen appliances repair.

from a another broken machine that I have in my shop. I never throw anything away because I know that someday I will use them to fix another machine.
